<Greys>
SilverFox is the pressure in a hurricane's eye lower than would be normal for that location if there weren't a hurricane there?
<SilverFox>
yes
<SilverFox>
its like this for any spinning phenomenae
fcbayerndm has quit [Quit: fcbayerndm]
<SilverFox>
although the pressures are fluctuating a lot because of all the air moving in and out, like in a tornado
<SilverFox>
is the ear popping caused by low pressure or high pressure?
<Greys>
if a hurricane was spinning fast enough, could the pressure in the eye ever approach 0atm? (ignoring whether a hurricane could spin that fast)
<SilverFox>
no
<SilverFox>
well, idk for sure
<SilverFox>
lemme think about this
<SilverFox>
it might require the hurricane to be stationary
<SilverFox>
and then basically just centrifuge
<SilverFox>
and the spinning will cause a pulling impulse towards the outer edges
Orum has joined #kspmodders
<SilverFox>
however, there's also air from above
<Greys>
I'd think it would come down to how fast the atmosphere above the hurricane could refill the space
<SilverFox>
which makes currents in air similar to what a magnetic field would look like
<Greys>
right right, makes sense
<SilverFox>
the uhhhhhh fucking things
<SilverFox>
hadley cells
<SilverFox>
ayyy
<Greys>
so, logically the above space would refill the eye at up to the speed of sound; and you couldn't empty the eye at more than the speed of sound either; so does the cylinder of the eye have more area on the sides or the top
<SilverFox>
surface area is important here
<SilverFox>
HOWEVER
<SilverFox>
the hurricane itself would collapse
<SilverFox>
because air would get pulled rapidly inward
<Greys>
google says hurricanes are 50kft tall
<Greys>
;wa 50 kilofeet to metric
<kmath>
Greys: convert 50 kilofeet to metric: 15.24 km (kilometers)15240 meters1.524×10^6 cm (centimeters)
<SilverFox>
yeah they're pretty big
Orum has quit [Killed (NickServ (GHOST command used by Rccc!~sklntyrlo@143.sub-174-197-15.myvzw.com))]
<SilverFox>
oh you fucking lil shit dont you start with the ghosting
Orum has joined #kspmodders
<SilverFox>
had enough of novy's shit
<SilverFox>
dont need another
<Greys>
google also says the typical diameter of a hurricane's eye is 30~65km
<SilverFox>
me thinks that at a low enough pressure it would cause the walls to collapse
<Greys>
;wa circumfrence of a 30km circle
<kmath>
Greys: circle->radius 30 km (kilometers)->circumference: 60 pi km (kilometers)~~188.496 km (kilometers)
<SilverFox>
or it would take a fuckton more, like hella hella hella fucktons, more energy to overcome that succ
<Greys>
;c 188 * 15
<kmath>
Greys: 2820.0
<Greys>
;wa area of a 30km circle
<kmath>
Greys: circle->radius 30 km (kilometers)->area: 900 pi km^2 (square kilometers)~~2827.43 km^2 (square kilometers)
<SilverFox>
wow
<SilverFox>
is that a 7km difference
<Greys>
top wins out, wow
<Orum>
not sure if mozilla is deliberately breaking their own API, or just incompetently
<Greys>
so no matter how fast you spun a hurricane, it would fill fast enough to not drop near 0ATM
<SilverFox>
right
<Greys>
cool
<SilverFox>
and at low pressures it'd collapse
<Greys>
so that means we can't make a super hurricane to launch rockets off the earth in a vacuum
<SilverFox>
what the ever loving fuck
<Orum>
the very idea that you'd launch rockets in the eye of a hurricane...
<Greys>
I've been reading xkcd what-ifs
<SilverFox>
do you know how much energy a hurricane has?
<SilverFox>
fuckbillion
<Greys>
enough to launch a rocket into space?
<Orum>
"a lot"
GlassFragments has joined #kspmodders
<Greys>
is there a reputible institute that goes back and calculates the joules or wattage of hurricanes?
<SilverFox>
I would confidently say we could power america for a damn good amount of time from the energy of a cat 5 hurricane
<SilverFox>
there's calculations and equations you can use
<Orum>
good luck harnessing it though
<SilverFox>
no need to harness it
<SilverFox>
we aren't mining a hurricane for the energy
<Orum>
:|
<SilverFox>
we're making one, which requires hurricane levels of energy
<Orum>
we already make hurricanes
<SilverFox>
1 hurricane ~= 1 hurricaneWatt
<Orum>
it's called global warming
<SilverFox>
holy fuck
<Greys>
so, if a hurricane could have pulled a vacuum, what would be so bad about launching a rocket in that vacuum? it's not like there'd be winds
<SilverFox>
everyone would have to be in spacesuits
<SilverFox>
all stages would have to be vacuum rated
<Orum>
the fact that you need to move the hurricane from over the ocean onto land, and somehow erect and fire a rocket then
<Greys>
rocket to space
<SilverFox>
rocket is technically in space
<Greys>
we could build a submersible launch platform
<SilverFox>
on ground
<Greys>
well, there's still air above them
<Greys>
so they're in a new space
<Orum>
space elevator seems far more practical than the hurricane idea
<SilverFox>
Greys, Inner Space
<SilverFox>
infinitely more practical
<SilverFox>
in fact
<Greys>
haven't seen it
<SilverFox>
my grade 9 idea for launching rockets using a mass cannon is more practical
<SilverFox>
electromagnet cannons
<Orum>
they tried that
<SilverFox>
Greys, it's the closer part of space, opposite of outer space
<Orum>
well, not with eletromagnets
<SilverFox>
because words
<SilverFox>
space on the inside, rather than outside
<Greys>
I wonder what the impossible vacuum hurricane would do to the ocean; surely it'd get pulled up, and would evaporate a fuckton; which would also ruin the possiblity of the vacucane
<SilverFox>
so the ground would get sucked up as well
<SilverFox>
so now you got dirt
<Greys>
wait; actually, even though the top has more area than the sides, the air above is lower density so it'll fill slower
<SilverFox>
anything in the walls is fucking gone
<SilverFox>
forever
<SilverFox>
disintigrated
<SilverFox>
it'll crash up and over the sides
<SilverFox>
like braiding wires
<Greys>
oh yea the hurricane would probably have to spin so fast that it'd just erase everything as it goes
<SilverFox>
hurricanes already do that with minimal vacuum pressure
<Greys>
no no, they do a lot of damage
<SilverFox>
so like, multiply by forever
<Greys>
this would be like, after the hurricane all land area is just tilled soil
<SilverFox>
or no soil
<Greys>
no grass, no trees, no buildings
<SilverFox>
grass would pull up the dirt
<Greys>
eh, the dirt goes down pretty far at the coast
<SilverFox>
rocks
<SilverFox>
thing is
<SilverFox>
we also have to dissipate the air, like we would heat
<SilverFox>
because shit fills the vacuum
<SilverFox>
so it has to get sucked out
<SilverFox>
where it go?
<SilverFox>
is there a designated exhaust port which can fit an x-wing sized craft?
<Greys>
if there's more than 30ft of soil, I doubt the hurricane would get to bedrock
<SilverFox>
we're talking pulling a vacuum here though
<SilverFox>
over a very large area
<Greys>
ok so, say you had a hurricane with a ceiling, no air entering the eye at all, and say the ground was a static plane of indestructable glass; ignore that this hurricane wouldn't have a source of power and that it'd be disrupted in a lot of ways. given a rotational speed the eye will reach an equilibrium pressure; how fast does a hurricane need to spin to evacuate the eye under 0.1ATM
<SilverFox>
so uhh
<SilverFox>
hows the rocket gonna get out if there's a ceiling?
<Greys>
there's no rocket in this scenario
<SilverFox>
mkay
angavrilov||phone has quit [Ping timeout: 198 seconds]
<SilverFox>
depends on the size of hurricane
<Greys>
this is just the bare minimum rotational speed of a hurricane to get teh air that was in the eye out of the eye
<SilverFox>
that's a lot of complex maths I don't wanna get into
<Greys>
does speed scale with size?
<SilverFox>
smaller ones go faster iirc
<Greys>
ok so 30km diameter eye
<SilverFox>
but are like burn bright and short
<SilverFox>
but like, you also have massive cat5 hurricanes that deal the most damage
<SilverFox>
so like, idk tbh
angavrilov|phone has joined #kspmodders
<SilverFox>
but bigger ones require more energy
<Greys>
we're at best going to be within three magnetudes here so you have a lot of leway

<Greys>
the problem with putting high power lasers down fiber is A, fibers are not perfectly reflective and the imperfection times the wattage is heat; and B, fibers break
<Orum>
C: reasons
<Greys>
imagine you're digging a hole, and you accidentally cut a high power laser fiber with your shovel
<SilverFox>
wait wait wait
<Greys>
now you've got a pipe leaking FRICKEN LAZERS
<SilverFox>
hold up
<SilverFox>
stop
<Greys>
yea that shit happens
<SilverFox>
how else do you pronounce "jpeg"
<Greys>
ziaf
<Greys>
so we had a bit of an outage the other day because somewhere in america, a telephone pole caught fire, and somebody else's fiber got melted
<SilverFox>
neat
<Greys>
imagine that fiber had a 3 megawatt laser going through it
<SilverFox>
our 6 week long strike is finally coming to an end
<Greys>
you strook?
<SilverFox>
wynne has majority party, and she wants to end the strike, so it's gonna happen
<SilverFox>
Greys, because Reasons(tm) teachers and faculty of ALL the colleges here in province got super mad and then started striking
<SilverFox>
nobody tells us why
<SilverFox>
its like some super secret club
<Greys>
oh, you're suffering a strike
<Greys>
not you're in a strike
<SilverFox>
might as well be
<Orum>
SilverFox: "Jay Pee Eee Gee"
<Greys>
so, are they going to pay for your lost education?
<SilverFox>
ew
<SilverFox>
nope
<SilverFox>
guess what they gonna do instead
<Greys>
extend the school year?
<SilverFox>
yup
<SilverFox>
and cut christmas break
<SilverFox>
I now get like, a week?
<Greys>
nawh nawh nawh mrs; jesus wouldn't do that
<SilverFox>
but guess what this means
<SilverFox>
now second semester is delayed as well
<SilverFox>
and this means summer semester is delayed as well
<SilverFox>
this has a permanent offset
<Greys>
and from then on, tornonto's higher education system was offset by a few weeks
<SilverFox>
"a few"
<SilverFox>
it's the ENTIRE province
<Greys>
a few means 3 or more, but less than a million
<SilverFox>
only if you suffer from mental problems
<SilverFox>
however
<Greys>
I do, it's called americans
<Greys>
nobody knows what several even does
<SilverFox>
we're now getting wind of employers saying that they won't hire people that have had education during the strike because we didnt get all of it, so of course we wont be as competent
<Greys>
did you know that there are people who think "a couple" can be anything other than two?
<Orum>
fuck those people
<SilverFox>
which means that my employability is going down hella
<Greys>
I agree.
<Orum>
the word is "several"
<SilverFox>
several is more than three
<SilverFox>
because three is a few
<Orum>
what?
<Greys>
a few should be three but it's used for kinda anything from three to seven
<SilverFox>
no
<Orum>
several is 2+
<SilverFox>
it's three
<Greys>
several is anything more than one and less than many
<SilverFox>
no that's a couple
<Greys>
so like 20 is not several
<Orum>
:|
<Orum>
sure it could be
<Orum>
"I have several atoms of aluminum here..."
<SilverFox>
couple is 2, few is 3, many is above that, several is above that but less than many
<SilverFox>
that sounds weird
<SilverFox>
also hold up
<SilverFox>
we forgot about a measurement
<SilverFox>
how much is "a good few"
<Greys>
oh, according to wiktionary, several can't be 1 or 2 or many
<Greys>
see good is problematic
<Greys>
good can mean quality, or greater quantity
<Orum>
wiktionary, lul
<Greys>
a good handful is more than a handful
<Greys>
a few.... is one eight to two eighths of the sky
<Greys>
eighth*
<SilverFox>
no
<Greys>
oh, in cloud coverage
<Orum>
tl;dr verison: english sucks
<Greys>
so more than no clouds, but less than three eighths of the sky, is a few clouds
<Greys>
this sounds like a bacfinition
<SilverFox>
english does kinda suck, but it has its benefits
<SilverFox>
it has a wide gamate of phonemes
<SilverFox>
gamut?
<Orum>
the only "benefit" is that a large amount of the world happens to speak it
<SilverFox>
false
<SilverFox>
I just gave a benefit
<Greys>
.... few can also be used to denote 10% or less chance of percipitation
<Greys>
meteorology hates this word
<SilverFox>
a few rain?
<Greys>
yea I can't see the use case
<Greys>
"used interchangably with "isolated""
<SilverFox>
yeah but remember that meteorology also hates itself
<SilverFox>
few showers
<Greys>
isolated rains
<Greys>
is that what you call it when you get hit in the face by a single raindrop on a cloudy day?
<SilverFox>
because the chance of rain is like, the chance of a certain area getting rain or some shit
<SilverFox>
it's not what you think anyways
<SilverFox>
well, I'd say so, but you said "rains" so there has to be multiple
<Greys>
pft, murka pluralize what it want
<Orum>
oh god, just don't
<Orum>
there's only one word that sounds like reigns... and that is, reigns
<Greys>
do you remember of wolf rain was a good show?
<Greys>
I only remember that there was a greaser and he was weird
<Orum>
oh actually I guess reins is spelled differently, so two
<SilverFox>
wolf children was a great show
<Greys>
no it wasn't, it was a movie
<SilverFox>
"I took my wife out to see the show"
<SilverFox>
get fukt
<Greys>
in that usage show only refers to stage performances
<Greys>
avengers is a movie, hamilton is a show
<Orum>
pretty sure when you get a wife is when you stop getting fucked
<SilverFox>
"take me out to the pictures"
<Orum>
and start getting screwed
<SilverFox>
nice
<SilverFox>
still got a few years left to live then
<Greys>
let's see, wolf`s rain, cuz graves yo, has a score of 6.76, 7.81, 8.58; so probably a decent show
<Orum>
you need to take the square root of the rating because of hyper-inflated animu ratings
<Greys>
the cube root of those scores is 7.68
<Orum>
why does it even have 3 ratings?
<Greys>
the real problem is that anidb can't agree on how many scores a givent hing should have, or what they mean
<Greys>
the first one is it's score, the second one is it's rating, the third is it's score
<Orum>
ugggggh
<Greys>
yay webdevs
<Orum>
so it's all nonsense, in other words
<Orum>
this is almost as bad as BGG
<Greys>
the highest scored show is Mushishi Zoku Shou, the highest rated show is Hagane no Renkinjutsushi, and the highest scored show is also mushishi, but mushishi's numbers are 9.62, 8.73, 10.00
<Orum>
why two scores?
<Greys>
because fuck you
<Orum>
oh ok
<Greys>
other shows that have a second score of 10, Lupin the third, Yuu Gi Ou: The Dark Side of Dimensions (the scarriest math class), fifteen individual seasons of Gintama, some girl's butt
<Orum>
Yu Gi Oh has a 10? whaaaat
<Greys>
one of the movies apparently
* Orum
makes a mental note to ignore AniDB ratings
<Greys>
yanno how like, the pokemon movies are somehow great, and half of the star trek movies are great; it's like that
<Orum>
the pokemon movies are great?
<Orum>
and not quite half of star trek is great... more like 1/4
<Greys>
yea apparently a lot of people really like them
<Greys>
I only saw the first and it's been forever
<Greys>
"Few is grammatically affirmative but semantically negative, and it can license negative polarity items."
<Greys>
mmmmmmenglish
<Greys>
so what about 6's personality interests you?
<Orum>
get three 6s and you have the number of the beast
<Orum>
7 is just overrated
<Greys>
what about 2?
<Orum>
what about it? It's the oddest prime, but beyond that it's not interesting
<Greys>
it's got a nice curve
<Orum>
curvy seems to be code for "fat" nowadays
<Orum>
not sure why
<Greys>
you callin' 2 fat?

It must work somehow, obviously, as Squad themselves have one AssetBundle per page, let alone category.
