<Greys>
SilverFox, ain't that bad isn't all that useful because firefox, and every browser, is bad; we've all accepted and internalized this. It's not about how bad they are but how much necessary unbeneficial change they require
<Greys>
I can't change to chrome because chrome forbids the behavior I require from an extension; I also hate the UI, but I could probably adapt. Safari doesn't forbid that, and the UI is about the same, but you can't theme it, and I look at screens too much to accept a white styled UI where I can choose not to
<Greys>
also I wouldn't now change to chrome because it performs like a cinderblock in a marathon
<Greys>
really it comes down to can I get the extensions I need, a URL alias system that doesn't require a global prefix, an outdated version of adblock because the new one is bought and paid for by advertisers, a black mostly flat theme, tabs on the bottom of the UI block, some capacity to have tab groups (firefox removed this feature but there's an extension), etc
<Greys>
oh, and I have to be able to gut a lot of horrible features that every browser has
<Greys>
so SilverFox, can I do that on the new firefox
<Greys>
or is it just differently as bad as everything else
<lpg>
are you not using ublock origin yet
<lpg>
because it's a known thing that adblock plus is no bueno and bought out
<Greys>
the old version of adblock works fine
<Greys>
not updating is a lower cost than transitioning to a new system
<lpg>
does it crash on pages with lots of iframes still
<Greys>
I have never had it crash at all
<lpg>
'transitioning to a new system' is literally like four mouse clicks
<lpg>
but I see what you mean I guess?
<Greys>
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
<Greys>
no, moving over all my rules and whitelists
<lpg>
crap I guess it's like 5 or 6
<lpg>
do you block extra stuff or something
<Greys>
extra?
<lpg>
how many rules and whitelist entries can you have
<Greys>
I don't even understand how to apply the concept of extra to a unique list
<lpg>
as in "are you blocking more things than base adblock does, and does ublock just do those things by default"
<Greys>
step one, get adblock, step 2, delete all the included rules
<lpg>
right, using an ancient extension isn't a concept that's compatible with new Firefox anyways
<Greys>
it's not ancient, just like 3 months
<lpg>
I thought regular AB hit the fan like 3 years ago with their "pay us money to be an acceptable ad" program
<Greys>
yea, and guess how that works
<Greys>
subscription lists
<lpg>
so what changed in the past 3 months?

<Greys>
the UI
<Greys>
it's not broadly impossible to select most ads to be blocked; or add blocks manually
<Greys>
now*
<Greys>
so the old version with a functioning UI, with all of ABP's influence removed, works fine
<Truga>
just use ublock origin it's better in every way
<Truga>
abp noticeably slows your browser these days
<Truga>
which it's supposed to prevent by blocking all those stupid ads
<Truga>
lol
<Greys>
my browser performs as expected, I don't use adblock for performance reasons; it's less work to not do anything than to transition for no appreciable gain

is this common?

also, how does a "direct drive" motor do those things?
<G-Mobile>
I think SSD prices are near their natural low, and we're now going to see density increase while the current price tiers remain mostly stable
<G-Mobile>
So there will be a 120$ SSD, but every year it'll be bigger than last year
