raptop changed the topic of #principia to: READ THE FAQ: http://goo.gl/gMZF9H; The current version is Galileo. We currently target 1.5.1, 1.6.1, 1.7.x, 1.8.1, and 1.9.1. <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly… | <egg> also 4e16 m * 2^-52 is uncomfortably large

<discord-> Jessica. — Would orbital perturbation be a significant issue for a geosynch relay network? and if so, how much station keeping should I expect to need to do over a few years

<discord-> Stonesmile. — There are two latitudes that are stable, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geostationary_orbit#Orbital_stability
<discord-> Stonesmile. — There are two longitudes that are stable, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geostationary_orbit#Orbital_stability (edited)
<discord-> Jessica. — hmmm
<discord-> Jessica. — This also happens to tell me what the delta V requirements usually are
<discord-> Jessica. — 2 m/s per year isn't too bad
<discord-> Jessica. — and if I deploy some of the relay network to those points, it should be quite nice
<discord-> Jessica. — hrmmmm
<discord-> Stonesmile. — The ammount of dv required isn't the problem; having to perform the burn manually is
<discord-> Stonesmile. — By that I mean that you have to switch to the vessel quite often
<discord-> Jessica. — I don't need it to be too precise
<discord-> Jessica. — Could probably get away with correcting it every year+
<discord-> Stonesmile. — Placing two sats at the stable points could be enough to cover your needs, and wont need any corrections
<discord-> Jessica. — It's mostly to provide better coverage for data relay for stuff at low altitudes

<discord-> Butcher. — I have a sat at one of the stable points, it picks up a bit of latitude wobble from the moon but largely takes care of itself.

<discord-> Sumguy. — in the year I was gone, 1) have nodes become any easier to use, 2) has any progress happened on station-keeping?
<discord-> Stonesmile. — 1; yes, 2; no
egg|laptop|egg has joined #principia
<discord-> lpg. — 1) marginally. MJ has grown a 'execute principia maneuver' feature, but for RO it's only occasionally usable. It doesn't take engine spool-up time into account
<discord-> Stonesmile. — The planning of nodes has improved quite a bit in the past months
<discord-> lpg. — that's true. the Rebase button is one of my new best friends

<discord-> smartdummies. — The rebase button is a godsend. The MJ execute Principia node button is much less so. I understand the coding reasons for not accounting for engine spool up time but that makes very unhelpful for most engines. Perhaps a box to add a value in seconds of how early to start the burn? That would be easier I think and make it more useful. I already have to start the burns earlier as Principia also
<discord-> egg. — > the Rebase button is one of my new best friends
<discord-> egg. — Hooray, I’m useful! I’m having a wonderful time.
<discord-> Stonesmile. — Good! Now to bring that down a bit; would it be possible to ad the option to select a event on the flight prediction (e.g. a Pe) and have the manouvre planner set that as the time?
