raptop changed the topic of #principia to: READ THE FAQ: http://goo.gl/gMZF9H; The current version is Galois. We currently target 1.8.1, and 1.9.1. <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly… | <egg> also 4e16 m * 2^-52 is uncomfortably large
<discord-_> scimas. — @egg Could you take a look at (any) one of the files I have created when you get the time? The game is refusing to start at any time other than 1951. Does the file need any specific name, or needs to be placed in any specific folder or I have messed it up some other way?
<discord-_> scimas. — @egg Could you take a look at (any) one of the files I have created when you get the time? The game is refusing to start (games starts well enough, but the initial state is always 1951-01-01, not saying that it crashes) at any time other than 1951. Does the file need any specific name, or needs to be placed in any specific folder or I have messed it up some other way? (edited)
<discord-_> egg. — @scimas Principia is not the thing that controls the date display, RSSTimeFormatter is. I made this configurable, please read my documentation in https://github.com/KSP-RO/RSSTimeFormatter/pull/3#issuecomment-317347870.
<discord-_> egg. — the only thing that is changed by the initial state file is where things are, not what your clock says; using your other initial state files should move the giant planets along their orbits, even though the KSP clock runs years late
<discord-_> scimas. — The date display could be an additional problem, but I actually went to tracking station and checked. Give me 5 min, let me confirm one last time.
<discord-_> egg. — the file otherwise just needs to be somewhere in GameData, and you need MM. It might fight with the existing initial state file, but I would expect such a fight to result in duplicate configs and therefore a crash, rather than silently using the 1951 one
<discord-_> egg. — (you need to create a new save, of course)
<discord-_> scimas. — Yeah, sorry, false alarm. 🙈 I got confused because I was checking for a solar eclipse in 1975, but the game epoch is set to 1976..

<discord-> egg. — @scimas also to answer your question, which I just noticed: DE is Development Ephemeris, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_Propulsion_Laboratory_Development_Ephemeris
<discord-> egg. — yeah https://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/?planet_eph_export does not mention any new DE, not sure what is up with Mercury.
<discord-> Skylar. — Mercuries orbit irl is wack, like, relativity wack
<umbralraptop> // The actual number is 42.98" on average, but there are other periodic // effects so your mileage will vary. See Nobili and Will, The real value of // Mercury's perihelion advance.
