egg changed the topic of #principia to: Logs: https://esper.irclog.whitequark.org/principia | <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly…

⟨Sumguy⟩ I was just asking here because I was using the planner when it froze
<queqiao->
⟨Sumguy⟩ ...I might have to wait until I get a new computer to use Principia. This isn't the first time it's frozen when making flight plans.

⟨Kitty⟩ The other day I had a cursed dream where GNU made GSP, an even more Jankier foss ksp.
<queqiao->
⟨Kitty⟩ The other day I had a cursed dream where GNU made GSP, an even more bloated foss ksp.
<queqiao->
⟨Kitty⟩ Does the edit to the message to switch janky to bloated go through the bridge btw?
<raptop>
sorta
<raptop>
I see both the origional and the edited line
<queqiao->
⟨Kitty⟩ ah oke cool uwu
<raptop>
kitty!
<queqiao->
⟨Kitty⟩ 👀
<raptop>
But what kind of kitty?
<raptop>
猫又? 化け猫?
<raptop>
(well, I guess that also counts as a unicode test)
<queqiao->
⟨(ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟshells)⟩ seems to have worked
<queqiao->
⟨(ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟshells)⟩ now, other way: 猫
<raptop>
yep, I see the kanji for cat
<queqiao->
⟨(ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟshells)⟩ ah, but it's actually Chinese 😈
<queqiao->
⟨(ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟshells)⟩ oh well, Unicode throws all the CJK characters together anyway so no difference
<raptop>
U+732b CJK UNIFIED IDEOGRAPH-732B for both?
<queqiao->
⟨Δv1㎧⟩ excuse me for asking- how does the 鹊桥IRC bot work?
<queqiao->
⟨§κyℓαr ♀⟩ Interesting, it shows up edited in discord. So, seems like on matrix and discord I will see messages edited, but anyone on irc will just see the message repeated but changed
<queqiao->
⟨Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they)⟩ I thought IRC didn't support showing the edit? Is this part of the improvement that egg mentioned?
<raptop>
maybe
<queqiao->
⟨Jessica⟩ magic i presume
<raptop>
It's fine. The ritual requires so little blood that we can just have a random person volunteer
<raptop>
(they'll live)
<queqiao->
⟨Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they)⟩ A tiny mosquito flying in the path of a spacecraft orbiting takes the blood
<queqiao->
⟨Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they)⟩ A tiny mosquito flying in the path of a spacecraft 'orbiting' a Lagrange point takes the blood (edited)
<raptop>
That sounds more like a larval mi-go than a mosquito
<queqiao->
⟨Sir Mortimer⟩ @raptop isn’t kanji the same as simplified chinese? At least that’s what I’ve been told
<raptop>
No, though it overlaps a lot with traditional chinese
<queqiao->
⟨(ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟshells)⟩ with minor differences, yes. Both Chinese and Japanese went through various degrees of simplification, but such simplification wasn't well-coordinated and as a result there exist some differences in modern-day versions.
<queqiao->
⟨Sir Mortimer⟩ Interesting. Does the meaning of the symbols change or do they mean more or less the same?
<raptop>
also, there's "simplified chinese" tends to explicitly refer to reforms done in the PRC in the mid-late 20th century
<queqiao->
⟨(ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟshells)⟩ The meanings are constant, they just invent new dumbed-down symbols to replace them
<queqiao->
⟨(ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟshells)⟩ (although "simplification" was not exclusively a PRC initiative of course)
<queqiao->
⟨Sir Mortimer⟩ Interesting.

⟨Sir Mortimer⟩ Aeons ago, I learned basic japanese from binge-watching entire seasons of anime with english subtitles. Then I began to take a japanese course at uni, because, you know, it goes well with IT. Sort of. Even was the proud owner of a $160 japanese-english code dictionary, where you have to first understand how the coding even works. Got as far as learning some basic hiragana, then I dropped out
<queqiao->
⟨(ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟshells)⟩ > it goes well with IT
<queqiao->
⟨(ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟshells)⟩ you're going to have to elaborate on that
<queqiao->
⟨Sir Mortimer⟩ It really does not. I just was into japanese back then. Unfortunately, as with all languages you don't use, I forgot most of it. Like my french (sorry egg)
<queqiao->
⟨Sir Mortimer⟩ Last year I watched hikaru no go, on youtube (wished we had that luxury back then!) and some of the japanese came back.
<queqiao->
⟨(ᴇxᴘᴇʀɪᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟshells)⟩ sino-tibetan languages are fun
<queqiao->
⟨Sir Mortimer⟩ so desu, ne 🙂
<queqiao->
⟨Butcher⟩ I'd say of you wanted a language for IT it world be English. 😆
<queqiao->
⟨Butcher⟩ I'd say of you wanted a language for IT it would be English. 😆 (edited)
<queqiao->
⟨Kitty⟩ Yknow, I still can't get that cursed thought out of my head from earlier
<queqiao->
⟨Kitty⟩ Of if GNU made KSP and called it GSP, and then somehow managed to make it more bloated than ksp.
<queqiao->
⟨Kitty⟩ Of if GNU made a KSP ksp and called it GSP, and then somehow managed to make it more bloated than ksp. I don't know why I keep thinking of such an unlikely cursed thought.
<queqiao->
⟨Butcher⟩ Gnu space program, you have to program the rockets in lisp, oh and its text.
<queqiao->
⟨Kitty⟩ @butcher: It can be gui, as long as its built inside emacs and lisp.
<queqiao->
⟨Sir Mortimer⟩ I learned english all right. But japanese is just more... stylish 🙂

⟨Standecco⟩ you can't have one ksp, that would be too large for a single program; you need 10 different programs that you need to switch through, one doing the orbital simulation, another the maneuver planning, yet another the thermal simulation, one for the life support, one for the EVA sim...
<queqiao->
⟨lpg⟩ lisp would be an improvement over kOS
<queqiao->
⟨Standecco⟩ you can use standard python libraries and even languages that aren't python
<raptop>
Yeah, if you're more familiar with javascript or C# or something you can use those.
<queqiao->
⟨lpg⟩ being out-of-process gives it some unfortunate limitations
<raptop>
But, sneks!
<queqiao->
⟨Butcher⟩ Imagine if that was the only way to control things though.
<raptop>
Controlling a spacecraft entirely with scripts, and making plots of what's going on with downlinked data?
<queqiao->
⟨lpg⟩ well, I agree _emacs_ lisp would be intolerable
<raptop>
I mean, the main problem with playing like that is that you should probably just go into aerospace
<raptop>
(as a career)
<queqiao->
⟨Standecco⟩ nah, it's fun
<queqiao->
⟨Standecco⟩ such as?
<raptop>
I didn't say it wasn't fun!
<raptop>
hrm, that's a lot of negatives
<queqiao->
⟨lpg⟩ precise timing loses a fair bit of precision

So, I re-installed principia while troubleshooting a bug. Now the game is working fine, except the blue maneuver icon won't show up on nav ball while I plan a new trajectory, what should I do?
