<Avera9eJoe> I'm not sure if anyone is up, but I'm looking for instructions on how to modify CKAN settings for a mod that I checked "add to CKAN" through SpaceDock

<Avera9eJoe> Howdy howdy
<Avera9eJoe> Someone has posted on my forum thread that Spectra doesn't work when they installed it via CKAN, and I added it to CKAN through SpaceDock. I'm curious how to edit the settings?
<Avera9eJoe> I never use CKAN since I love SpaceDock, and so this post is throwing me out of the ballpark
<Avera9eJoe> All I know is that when I check the "Add to CKAN" button when going through SpaceDock, my mod magically appears in the CKAN Gui but I don't know how to modify the settings once its in CKAN :P
<AllisTauri[m]> Ah, I see.
<AllisTauri[m]> From SpaceDock you can't do this, as the only thing SD does is notifies CKAN that there's a new mod to include in their index.
<AllisTauri[m]> What you have to do is this:
<AllisTauri[m]> Fork netkan repo:
<AllisTauri[m]> Find the metadata file automatically generated for your mod, edit it and make a PR explaining the change.
<Avera9eJoe> fuuuuuu
<Avera9eJoe> :P
<AllisTauri[m]> There's a complete specification of the format:
<Avera9eJoe> Thanks for the info, I'm glad to know how it works now
<Avera9eJoe> In all honesty I may just ask they take it down
<Avera9eJoe> I never use CKAN, since I know how unreliable a lot of those links can be
<AllisTauri[m]> And the guide:
<Avera9eJoe> Many thanks
<Avera9eJoe> Do you use CKAN yourself?
<AllisTauri[m]> I do, and I honestly think it's a great tool
<AllisTauri[m]> When you have a lot of mods that depends on each other it's too easy to corrupt your installation with manual updates.
<Avera9eJoe> Gotcha
<Avera9eJoe> Quick question for you-
<Avera9eJoe> Is there a chance you could load up CKAN from your PC and search something really quick for me?
<Avera9eJoe> My CKAN GUI is showing something different from the screenshots the user posted so I want to check and see if its something on my end
<AllisTauri[m]> Also keep in mind that while you yourself may not use it, many of your users do, so removing your mod from there will not them
<Avera9eJoe> Yeah
<AllisTauri[m]> <AllisTauri[m] "Also keep in mind that while you"> *will hit them
<Avera9eJoe> CKAN shows 22k downloads for Spectra which is incredible to me
<Avera9eJoe> That said, I can't even download it on my PC for some reason
<Avera9eJoe> My game version is 1.7.3.2594, and Spectra is updated to 1.7.3 and it shows that on CKAN, but I cannot download it
<Avera9eJoe> I wanted to ask you if you could search "Spectra" and see if it has a check mark next to it for you
<Avera9eJoe> Sorry that this is unrelated to SpaceDock
<AllisTauri[m]> The netkan files are pretty easy to maintain, actually; and may hold them in your own repo, keeping only a link in the CKAN indeed
<AllisTauri[m]> Check the dependencies tab: may be it requires some other mod that is not yet upgraded for 1.7.3
<Avera9eJoe> Ahhh
<AllisTauri[m]> *oh, it's a pain to write on the phone; so many misspellings!
<Avera9eJoe> xD no worries
<Avera9eJoe> you've been an incredible help
<AllisTauri[m]> Glad to be; and don't ditch CKAN just yet, before you know it. Many player use nothing but CKAN to get mods
<Avera9eJoe> yeaouch...
<Avera9eJoe> I don't think my CKAN download even works
<Avera9eJoe> if its using the files that I updloaded straight to SpaceDock there's no way it could parse my manual installation steps into the game
<Avera9eJoe> I'm installing right now though to see
<Avera9eJoe> My download has three folders in it: Dependencies, Modfiles, and Extras
<Avera9eJoe> If its literally throwing the contents of the zip into GameData its not gonna work
<Avera9eJoe> Hold on a sec, holy shit...
<Avera9eJoe> uh, I don't know how but its installing it correctly
<Avera9eJoe> Booting up
<Avera9eJoe> Wow...
<Avera9eJoe> It looks like I don't need to change a thing.
<Avera9eJoe> It looks like the settings in CKAN are all correct
<Avera9eJoe> The problem lies in its dependencies
<Avera9eJoe> Thank you, it looks like I have this all sorted out :)
<AllisTauri[m]> Great)

<DasSkelett[m]> Oups.... I accidentally upgraded some packages via apt on alpha, didn't realise I was still sshed on it. Got most of them undone, some can't, but from what I can judge from the version numbers, those were only small bug fix updates. alpha.spacedock.info still works 🎉
<DasSkelett[m]> Got a list of all the upgrades, which packages I could restore the previous version for, and for which I couldn't, if you wanna check.
HebaruSan[m] has joined #spacedock
<HebaruSan[m]> Probably fine, I'm not aware of specific version requirements. Most of those were installed with simple "sudo apt-get install" commands without versions.
<DasSkelett[m]> Yeah looks like only the patch numbers were incremented for the remaining packages (if they follow a somewhat semver-like system). Those are basically some mesa libraries, a bit of systemd and libssl+openssl.
<HebaruSan[m]> I assume we're set up for automatic security updates already?
<DasSkelett[m]> No idea
