<LunchBot> Added outcome: Your strings are null-terminated.
<raptop> >_>
<raptop> <_<
<taniwha> but that's normal!
<raptop> That's the joke!
<raptop> It looks like a bad outcome, but it's completely normal
<SporkWitch> just pipe all the output to /dev/null
<taniwha> I couldn't help but think of null space drives and null space communicators when I recently (re?)learned about null spaces.
<raptop> heh

<LunchBot> You spend hours explaining in increasingly enraged tones how dividing by zero is not "scary" or "evil" or capable of "breaking the universe," it's just impossible, and everyone needs to shut up about it already. Failure is not an option, but happens anyway.
<Althego> hehe
<Althego> basically failing at explaining the impossibility of division by zero
<FLHerne> nono
<FLHerne> dividing by zero isn't an option, but happens anyway and breaks the universe
<FLHerne> the people you were arguing with were right
<FLHerne> it's quite easy to do impossible things that break the universe in KSP, ask Danny
<darsie> Miracles are bugs in the universe.

<LunchBot> You hire Big Man Japan for your next mission. For all the resultant horror, grief, and pain, you put your differences behind you and try again. For science. You monster.
<Pinkbeast> Oh LV-Ns how I love your 12 minute burns
<Mat2ch> and the physics timewarp that only goes to 4x.
<Mat2ch> and is not very precise.
<Althego> 12 minutes long burn is not even that long
<Althego> you can do it in 2 parts if you are in kerbin orbit
<SporkWitch> better timewarp mod will allow higher levels of physics warp, including when in vacuum, to make those long burns more bearable
<Mat2ch> About precision. I'm playing an old game right now, a flight simulator. Originally from 1993. Back than it ran awfully and wasn't released until 1997 or so.
<Pinkbeast> I have it but I mostly just read during the long burns
<Mat2ch> I wondered for some time how they managed to have real 3d done only on the cpu. Until I remembered: They didn't use floats.
<Pinkbeast> Eh, Aviator (1983) has 3D scenery :-)
<Mat2ch> lines don't count.
<Mat2ch> ;)
<Mat2ch> I'm talking about real scenery here, multiple aircrafts in the air
<Pinkbeast> Aviator has multiple aircraft in one mode
<Mat2ch> a 3d view of the plane from the outside (with a function to see it in a flyby)
<Mat2ch> Buildings, hills
<Mat2ch> cities (also not very detailed)
<Pinkbeast> Aviator has buildings! It even has a bridge to fly under.
<Mat2ch> *although
<Pinkbeast> More seriously, re simplifications, Elite (1984) had the ingenious idea of making you the centre of a polar coordinates universe. This not only simplifies a lot of the flight maths, it means the player's ship movement happens quite precisely - the further away from you something is, the more imprecisely its movement is simulated, but the player can't tell because it's a long way away.
<Mat2ch> And I'm talking about drawing 3d objects with 30 fps in 1993 for consumer computers. Totally new back in the days
<Pinkbeast> Nah, loads of 16-bit games were doing that (including Arc Elite, 1991)
<Mat2ch> How many at the same time?
<Pinkbeast> (but also, not delayed until '97)
<Pinkbeast> Polygon graphics in flight sims are I think F-19 (1988)
<Althego> hehe f-29 retaliator
<Althego> the siren sound when your plane was seriously damaged, through the pc speaker, it still echoes in me
