With Star Citizen coming in a cheeky last place sometime around the heat death of the universe
<SporkWitch>
eh, for all the mismanagement, even what's currently playable of Star Citizen is still better than Elite: Dangerous
<packbart>
ooh, *that* is a heated debate on the Internets
<SporkWitch>
only because E:D overcharged like crazy for even base access to the game, so you get a lot of people trying to justify their wasted money
<Pinkbeast>
I admit it's a bit odd because people are clearly out there playing _bits_ of it but it's not quite clear what

<SporkWitch>
SC has a full gameplay loop, the FPS portion actually works, and the ships actually handle like what they're supposed to be. Contrast with E:D where all ships handle like a whale in a wheelchair with square wheels
<packbart>
I recently bought X4 on sale and got bored during the tutorial, tbh. I'll give it another try, though
<SporkWitch>
I actually tried the new on-foot content in E:D, and it's buggy as hell. mission targets don't spawn or only partially spawn so you have to quit and reload to finish them. The match-based combat missions will take 10 minutes to get you there, then not actually spawn the conflict, etc.
<SporkWitch>
X4 is a lot of fun, but one has to remember that it's an empire-builder first. The fact you can pilot ships yourself is largely secondary once you start things going.
<SporkWitch>
That said, the ship handling and combat is much better than E:D lol
<SporkWitch>
Keep in mind also that not all weapons and equipment are the same. A Paranid M Shield Mk1 has different stats than a Terran M Shield Mk1, despite both being M Shield Mk1's
<packbart>
right. so not quite as bad as the tradewars text adventure with optional space wallpaper, EVE ;)
<SporkWitch>
As someone that flew interceptors for the better part of a decade, I'll have to dispute that one. There's a lot more nuance to EVE's combat than the people saying "spreadsheets in space" give credit for.
<SporkWitch>
Unfortunately all that nuance is moot since it's nothing but blob warfare these days, hence why i stopped playing after more than 10 years
<packbart>
EVE's subscription cost went up, too. I can't imagine paying $20 per month for all that work, ymmv
<SporkWitch>
eh, established players don't really pay for their subs lol. If you know what you're doing it's easy enough to make money in-game, and you just buy time cards from the people that buy them to sell.
<Pinkbeast>
I played a chunk of EVE during the _City of Heroes_ interregnum but - I still read some EVE news - I think they're fucking it up once again with added NFT snake oil
<packbart>
hm. I've got the solution. I play Elite while I mine in EVE and play NMS while I supercruise in Elite.
<SporkWitch>
didn't see about the NFTs, but I agree about screwing things up. Around the 10 year mark they abandoned their "stfu, we know what's best for the game" mentality and instead started listening to the whiny carebears. The end result was destruction of game balance for small groups, which exacerbated the blob warfare trend
<Pinkbeast>
I enjoyed Elite in a wing in voice comms with friends
<SporkWitch>
eh, even bad games can be fun with friends, look at WoW. Most of its players know it's crap, they just keep playing because their friends play
<Pinkbeast>
I play Elite while I mine in EVE> brb dusting off my Catalyst :-)
<packbart>
Pinkbeast: nah, I've got an eye on the scanner, a hotkey on the jump and aligned with the destination, fwiw
<packbart>
wormhole mining in a Venture doesn't really pay, though
<Pinkbeast>
Heh. I had a D-scan pedal back in the day, and yeah, I did a bit of wh gas huffing but it's barely worth it
<SporkWitch>
Star Wars Restoration 3 is really good, though. They're refactoring post-NGE content to use CU systems. They left the space portion in its post-NGE state, but that's kind of fine since space let you unlock everything anyway, so it doesn't really destroy the balance the way the NGE did for the ground game.
<packbart>
(that's me talking about logging into EVE about once a month ;)
<SporkWitch>
mildly annoyed with them at the moment, though. I was supposed to be joining the dev team and then they went silent. Presumably just didn't have time for onboarding with the push for 1.0, but they could at least have communicated.
<Pinkbeast>
Now my English Help muscles are twitching to ask if you mean aligned-and-moving or need the "no such thing as passive align" talk ;-)
<SporkWitch>
unrelated, apparently they're backporting the new structures and stuff from Subnautica Below Zero to Subnautica
<packbart>
moving slow. I did notice soon enough that it doesn't help when stopped. I don't assume I know what I'm doing, though. Only got caught once by surprise, so far
<packbart>
I like to look at game mechanics more than playing the games, sometimes ;)

two more weeks until new GPU...
<umaxtu>
yay!
<SporkWitch>
the real question is whether it will actually improve KSP performance heh
<SporkWitch>
New Game Experience. That's the one where they made jedi a starting class and tried to turn the game into WoW
<SporkWitch>
the CONTENT they added at that point was good, but they completely ruined the actual gameplay. The Restoration 3 server uses the pre-NGE game systems, but adds the actual CONTENT that was added with the NGE and later.
<SporkWitch>
They're also doing their own original unlock system for Jedi, so people will have to figure it out again, just like back in the day.

made an x33 with fusion-powered thermal turbojets. carries a little bit of liquid fuel since the RCS use LFO, but mostly just oxidizer for reaction mass once there's not enough air to run through the turbojets. 100km orbit with 8km/s ΔV left ^^

You decide to build a rocket that reuses the SRBs and throws away the tankage. A new "rescue-a-kerbal" contract is now available, featuring you as the rescuee-to-be.
<SporkWitch>
let's be fair, once you get going in NMS, you have too much of EVERYTHING lol. So many conversion reactions, and even duplication reactions (like deuterium cycling)
<funkenstein>
what
<funkenstein>
apparently I don't play the game right
<funkenstein>
I got all the way to the center of the galaxy and yet the only thing I'm confident I have enough of IS tritium, from all the asteroid popping I do
<funkenstein>
I don't even understand how people get the alien looking ships or the hoods on their helmets or any of that
<SporkWitch>
click the output, search what you want, it'll show you how to make it. Some things have cycles that produce more, such as deuterium → deuterium jelly → deuterium. By making it in the refiner, it uses less to produce the jelly than is produced by turning jelly to deuterium, so it actually creates more.
<funkenstein>
consevation of mass much
<funkenstein>
strange
<SporkWitch>
as to the organic ship, you need to get the special currency from the daily and weekly missions at the space anomaly and buy a void egg, then do the quest.

<funkenstein>

some of the most useful are the rare metals with chromatic metal. take 1 emeril and 1 chromatic metal and get 2 emeril
<SporkWitch>
NEVER use up the last of your emeril, cadmium, etc., since you can make chromatic in any system, and that reaction lets you produce more of the ones that are only found in the systems that require the drive upgrades
<SporkWitch>
you can type in that dropdown, too, to filter the results and not have to scroll through it all
<funkenstein>
nice! also the lack of orbital mechanics feels really odd
