until you get the later ones. Even a KIWI B derived engine will add 40-50% to the LEO weight lift max of a saturn V

the later SNTP one is a great 2nd stage to mars pusher, 5 ignitions is enough to mess up and still make a couple of correction burns as you head out

regardless only use them to increase the mass to target unless you need the dV to straight out enable a non swingby outer planet mission, say uranus orbit

the stock RO one is the paper NERVA so they improve on that by a lot, the NERVA II is basicly the Phoebus II. their cost is exagerated because the real world program rolled all kinds of J2 development into it

given that I've not launched anything more than 350t yet, I can't see me using anything except the PEWEE

somehow the idea of using a nuclear second stage (e.g. to replace a J-2) just feels wrong, though I don't have a good reason why

the way to use a peewee is in place of an RL10, with double the dV. DRA 5.0 uses 3 of them for its main safe choice

(besides, flying little tankers of storables to LLO isn't _that_ expensive. Still _way_ cheaper than a single Saturn V launch ;)

RF update for MLI is easy, active cooling is harder. starwaster was getting a good version working in RealISRU
