<discord-> Conventia. — Given the amount of work that goes into modding KSP and working around it's limitations, I'm not sure whether a from scratch implementation wouldn't have been less work overall. Granted, that's irrelevant, since a huge part of mods actually getting developed is based around relatively instant gratification and anything from scratch is way less likely to get to that point.
<discord-> Myshiko. — > whether a from scratch implementation wouldn't have been less work overall.
<discord-> Myshiko. — @Conventia Nah, from scratch does not work in Real Life, and mainly not for engineering reasons but for marketing and business reasons.
<discord-> Conventia. — That's why I said 'less work', i.e. less man years.
<discord-> Conventia. — person years?
<discord-> Myshiko. — if one adds "marketing and business" efforts, from scratch is way more work and much higher risks in case of unavoidable failure.

<discord-> moar ssto. — Is there anything from kspie than can be applied to in-warp engine thrust? Since on-rail thrusting in kspie does take resource consuption into account.

<discord-> egg. — > let's not spend too much time detailing the technicalities of things that are years away
<discord-> Kerbinator. — In rail thrusting is not future tech at all, and that mod apply it to RO ion engine with 2-body physics, as cruise control. As a matter of fact, it is really PC-unfriendly to have 1000x physic warp with Principia since it will be easy to wake up Kraken with that and SAS is seriously shaking.
<discord-> Kerbinator. — It shows in right-click-in-flight menu as a orbital parameter tweaker at all physic frames
<discord-> egg. — The question is not whether it is future tech.
<discord-> egg. — The question is what I want to work on, and what I choose to work on.
<discord-> egg. — This is not the current focus.
<discord-> Kerbinator. — yep

<discord-> egg. — Further discussion is not useful.
<discord-> Kerbinator. — Yep maybe
<discord-> Kerbinator. — and that's it
<discord-> egg. — To clarify, since my wording may have been unclear: when I say "years away", I don't mean that the tech is years away. I mean that this being a Principia feature is years away.

<discord-> Ram. — Good morning, I installed principia with my newest version of ro/rp1 so the installation guide told me not to install persistent rotation, however my ships do rotate in warp so does principia deal with that on it's own?
<discord-> egg. — yes
<discord-> egg. — that is why you should not install persistent rotation
<discord-> egg. — Principia does it (and does it correctly)
<discord-> egg. — so the two would fight each other
<discord-> Ram. — ok and is there a similar way to fix the attitude when in warp?
<discord-> egg. — no, spin-stabilization is advised if you need a fixed attitude and/or have no attitude control
<discord-> Ram. — ok thanks for the info, I don't, yea I was having the same problem with my solar panel,
<discord-> Ram. — ok thanks for the info, yea I was having the same problem with my solar panel, (edited)
<discord-> Damien. — if you need attitude control for solar panel illumination only, be aware that when using kerbalism, solar panel illumination is fixed at whatever it was at when last loaded

<discord-> egg. — @Damien @lpg @Butcher I am wondering whether it might be useful to try to describe the orbit with words when it happens to be a named configuration (e.g., the orbit is synchronous, it is polar, it is frozen, etc.) or whether the pile of numbers does the job
<discord-> Damien. — words if practical
<discord-> Damien. — numbers too because space nerds but not everyone sees in binary like eggs do
<discord-> egg. — since right now to see that the orbit is synchronous you have to read the [1, +0, 1] notation or something
<discord-> egg. — (well, there is also the 1 rev. = 1 day comment below)
<discord-> Damien. — thinking about it, words are nice icing on the cake but I wouldn't lose sleep over it
<discord-> Damien. — *opens ksp to look at the orbit analyser gui*

<discord-> Damien. — for anyone else who has trouble picturing something without looking at it
<discord-> egg. — So for that one I might say it is a circular equatorial Earth orbit and that is about all I have to say about it
<discord-> Damien. — yeah
<discord-> Damien. — ^ inclined geosync
<discord-> egg. — That one looks quite synchronous over the mission duration, yes
<discord-> egg. — (which is only two weeks though)
<discord-> egg. — not bad
<discord-> egg. — drifting by 70 km over the course of a year
<discord-> egg. — synchronous enough
<discord-> egg. — What is the size of @Sir Mortimer's cone for GEO dishes again?
<discord-> Damien. — not sure
<discord-> Damien. — ^ in a messy Kerbin-Mun L3 orbit
<discord-> egg. — very pretty history
<discord-> egg. — shame about the conic in the middle
<discord-> egg. — who renders that?
<discord-> Damien. — contracts do, which is annoying
<discord-> Damien. — it's one offered but not accepted
<discord-> Damien. — it'll probably go if I reject it and wait a while
<discord-> siimav. — Isn't there an option on the top bar to hide contract orbits?
<discord-> Damien. — in tracking station but I've had issues with that
<discord-> Damien. — seems to work this time. I can turn it off in tracking stn
<discord-> egg. — That's JNSQ I presume?
<discord-> Damien. — yeah
<discord-> Damien. — I'm trying to do all my missions interestingly
<discord-> Damien. — this was a simple flyby mission
<discord-> Profiremu23. — Wow
<discord-> Damien. — then once I was done playing I sent it to L3
<discord-> Profiremu23. — I see is JNSQ
<discord-> Damien. — I need to stop deleting my crafts. I had another one that travelled from kerbin to the mun via sun-kerbin L2
<discord-> Damien. — and one that did a low energy transfer from mun to minmus for something like 4ms
<discord-> Damien. — just messing around really
<discord-> Profiremu23. — I dont know, what would happen, if i install Principia in a install with other solar systems orbiting around Kerbol
<discord-> Profiremu23. — I maked a install with 2 solar systems installed around Kerbol
<discord-> Profiremu23. — I maked a install with 2 solar systems orbits around Kerbol (edited)
<discord-> Profiremu23. — I dont know, what would happen if i install Principia in a install with other solar systems orbiting around Kerbol (edited)
<discord-> egg. — nothing interesting will happen, except that you cannot get there, as has been discussed repeatedly here over the past few weeks
<discord-> egg. — @Damien nice outer transfer!
<discord-> Profiremu23. — Nice
<discord-> Damien. — not a bad capture tbh
<discord-> Profiremu23. — That is a capture!
<discord-> Damien. — next on my list is a recreation of Genesis when I can be bothered to design the spacecraft
<discord-> Damien. — I've planned out the mission and it'll take about 1600m/s from LKO
<discord-> Damien. — principia ruined ksp
<discord-> Damien. — ksp is just a foundation to play with principia now
<discord-> Damien. — I can't remember the last time I launched an actual kerbal
<discord-> Profiremu23. — Same
<discord-> Damien. — minmus to the mun because why not
<discord-> Damien. — perfectly sensible looking trajectory there
<discord-> Damien. — not pure luck at all

<discord-> egg. — @Sir Mortimer got @bofh453 to give me some formulae re. temperature dependence of noise and thus detection threshold, so I'll add those to the design doc in a bit

<discord-> Conventia. — Last night I did a launch to Mars and the transfer window planner said 3727 dv total and then I played with the flight planner and ended up with exactly that much dv being required.
<discord-> Conventia. — It's like one of those zen moments when things align and all is right with the world.
<discord-> Conventia. — Is it possible to put in a fake initial orbit while in the tracking station and then make a flight plan?
<discord-> Conventia. — Cause as far as I can tell, a flight plan is a snapshot of the vessel orbit at one moment in time and everything is based on that, so if modifying the initial conditions were possible, it would be easier to do flight planning without hacking gravity and moving random probes around.
