UmbralRaptop changed the topic of #principia to: READ THE FAQ: http://goo.gl/gMZF9H; The current version is Fuchs. We currently target 1.5.1, 1.6.1, 1.7.x, 1.8.1, and 1.9.1. <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly… | <egg> also 4e16 m * 2^-52 is uncomfortably large

Myshiko. — @Conventia survival of the fittest. Actually matches the history of the Moon mascons discovery : NASA was puzzled why some probes deorbit way earlier then others.

egg. — Hm, parachuting Kerbals seem to be a bit wonky with Principia lately?
<discord->
Myshiko. — Hmm, I haven’t tried that lately. Might be a good thing to do on next EVA.

Do the parachutes have an unusually large graviton cross-section?
<discord->
DRVeyl. — Perspective can be a little tough.

DRVeyl. —

DRVeyl. — Did you know that you can control how many of the circles get drawn to make the cone? Turn on the toolbar icon in the difficulty settings for RA, then click the button and it gives you some knobs to fiddle in map view.
<discord->
egg. — @DRVeyl ah, I’ll have a look at that
<discord->
egg. — nice Ka cone pointed at Iceland though
<discord->
Conventia. — My orbit was like 500km by 20km and 90 inc. I knew it was either going to hit the moon or slowly become more circular. One probe did one and the other... lasted long enough to give me lots of science.
<discord->
egg. — @Transparent_Elemental you are looking at your trajectory in a reference frame wherein the moon moves
<discord->
egg. — so the moon moves
<discord->
egg. — @DRVeyl where are those difficulty settings you speak of?
<discord->
DRVeyl. — Escape menu, difficulty settings, RA has a panel there
<discord->
DRVeyl. — I need to rename it, it calls itself the performance UI button because that's all it did before I added the map drawing features
<discord->
egg. — hmm, I don't see it
<discord->
egg. — ah nevermind
<discord->
lpg. — naming aside, is there still a reason for that button to be off by default?

Transparent_Elemental. — thanks, managed to impact the moon this time

DRVeyl. — Probably no reason for the button to default off, no. Esp since we fixed the issue where having it enabled caused the slowdown because of the texture conversion
<raptop>
...are you saying that selenocentric reference frames aren't the One True Absolute Reference Frame?

Butcher. — @egg indeed, I had not expected to lose it so soon.

Butcher. — Periselene at low latitude though.

egg. — @Butcher given its eccentricity it is likely it ran into the ground
<discord->
egg. — at that semimajor axis and that inclination you needed a near-circular orbit anyway
<discord->
Butcher. — It wasn;t intended as a long term probe really, it has a 1 bps connection to the DSN which was limiting.
<discord->
Butcher. — A second orbiter is being built ith improved comms.

egg. — 1 baud connection sounds fun

Diego_. — So, I'm starting to look at those flyby missions. What's the best approach to find planetary transfer windows in Principia? any useful directions/guides around? Thanks!

Myshiko. — TransferPlanner mod gives an approximate launch date, then polar orbit over sun terminator and a bit of manual fiddling. This is not 100% perfect, but it’s a start.
