⟨Overloader⟩ can i somehow set an alarm for when a orbit significantly changes?
<queqiao->
For example an alarm for when a satelite would either crash into the moon or escape it so i can go in and do a correction burn?
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ use orbit analyzer to find out when the orbit changes too much, set an alarm
<queqiao->
⟨Overloader⟩ what about this tells me when it will crash
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ it shows lowest altitude - 17km, and says "collision risk" in orange
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ duration is 37 days, so this might happen within 37 days
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ decrease duration and see when the warning goes away
<queqiao->
⟨Overloader⟩ I see, thanks
<queqiao->
⟨Gratak-⟩ It will usually happen shortly before the amount of days written there. Since the calculation stops shortly after impact
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ so what happens if you enter 1037 days now?
<queqiao->
⟨Gratak-⟩ It starts calculating but still stops at 37 days
<queqiao->
⟨Gratak-⟩ That actually happened for him. See the calculation bar that isn't finished
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ but i don't think it will tell anywhere that it stopped at 37 days
<queqiao->
⟨Gratak-⟩ It certainly does for the one from flight plans
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ no, it just means the screenshot was taken when the calculation was not completed
<queqiao->
⟨Gratak-⟩ Try it. Make a 1000 day flight plan in an instable orbit. Then open the analyer. It will tell you something else than 1000 days
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ besides, collision risk or worse, "reentry" is not impact, and the calculation will continue long after the craft is already in the atmosphere
<queqiao->
⟨Gratak-⟩ And that number it tells you will be a pretty good aproximation. Except on planets with an atmosphere
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ so the only reliable way to do it is to decrease duration until the warning go away, not hope that the calculation stops at 37 days or something like that.
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ * warnings
<queqiao->
⟨Gratak-⟩ I never said to hope for the 37 days. I just said, that those days are already close to the solution, which is very useful to know
<queqiao->
⟨Gratak-⟩ +37
<queqiao->
⟨Stonesmile⟩ ⟪Overloader⟫ can i somehow set an alarm for when a […] ⮪ I usually do this by planning the next burn in advance and setting an alarm for the next node
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ That might require a very long flight plan in low orbit, which is resource consuming
<queqiao->
⟨Stonesmile⟩ Not as bad as it used to be, with recent updates
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ the orbit analyzer is faster anyway
<queqiao->
⟨Stonesmile⟩ Yeah, my use case was a Lissajous orbit, so that wasn't an option for that case
<queqiao->
⟨EMPERORINTERNET⟩ is an evenly spaced satellite constellation even possible in principia?
<queqiao->
⟨EMPERORINTERNET⟩ think i'm going mad here
<queqiao->
⟨Starmincer⟩ Over what timescale?
<queqiao->
⟨EMPERORINTERNET⟩ dunno
<queqiao->
⟨EMPERORINTERNET⟩ years?
<queqiao->
⟨EMPERORINTERNET⟩ doesn't have to be perfect, but at least usable as commnet
<queqiao->
⟨test_account⟩ not really possible, not worth it
<queqiao->
⟨Starmincer⟩ You don't need a perfect constellation for comms.
<queqiao->
⟨egg⟩ I really need to get back to #σκοπός so we can start getting some semblance of an intuition of how orbit and constellation design works…
<queqiao->
⟨egg⟩ +into people’s minds
<queqiao->
⟨EMPERORINTERNET⟩ so i put up 4 satellites in a good-enough orbit and hacked them to a semblance of synchronizity with hyperedit
<queqiao->
⟨EMPERORINTERNET⟩ let's see how it goes

There's a case to be made for going with highly elliptical orbits (eg: Молния), though you might still have issues with apses or planes moving
<queqiao->
⟨patrikcath⟩ ⟪EMPERORINTERNET⟫ so i put up 4 satellites in a […] ⮪ There was a mod that lets you set an exact orbit from the tracking station if the craft is very close to it and has monopropellant, but I have no idea if it works with RP-1 or RO
<queqiao->
⟨patrikcath⟩ It would probably break horribly with Principia anyway
<paculino>
The hack gravity loophole would allow it, wouldn't it?
