<NGC3982>
so, about 2000 hours in i think i can properly review ksp now
<NGC3982>
for a game that allows you to play 2000 hours and still enjoy it, it's actually a pretty short game
<Althego>
hehe
<Althego>
i think there is too much science in the kerbin soi with its too moons for the size of the tech tree
<NGC3982>
yes
<NGC3982>
the obvoius solution would be a bigger tech tree
<Althego>
you can relatvely easily complete the tree
<Althego>
yes
<Althego>
tyhere are mods for this
<NGC3982>
yes, second time around a science run can fill the tree in like four launches
<Izaya>
Far Future Technologies wants to know your location
<NGC3982>
afaik the game doesnt support adding items in the tech tree as mods, right?
<Izaya>
it does
<Izaya>
look into Community Tech Tree
<NGC3982>
also, a solar system should be realistic of course, but 100+ more planets and moons would be nice (even though that would entail extra-solar travel which is also nice but something completely different)
<NGC3982>
one thing that ive noticed for myself is that after so many hours in the game i dont really fancy the non-productive launches anymore. like, building a big ass space station doesn't do much for me
<Althego>
i find space stations useless
<Izaya>
I like getting paid to build stations and bases
<Althego>
or rather with very little utility compared to how hard they are to put there
<NGC3982>
exactly
<NGC3982>
and when it's not even hard to put them out there anymore it doesnt do much for me
<Althego>
you can pump out infinite science from them but that is just making the problems worse
<NGC3982>
yeah, that just elevates the problem
<Izaya>
my Mun station is a lot more useful than my LKO stations, but they make money so \o/
<NGC3982>
i shouldnt really call it a problem because all games have their end
<NGC3982>
and i have perhaps reached it
* NGC3982
really, really wants a new ksp game
<Althego>
soon tm
<Althego>
i really hope ksp2 is not steam only
<NGC3982>
is there a date?
<Althego>
they mentioned something about publicly available pre release thing next year
<NGC3982>
everything about it doesnt sound that good tbh
<NGC3982>
not hard to diagnose development hell reading ksp2 twitter news

<packbart>
!mission
<LunchBot>
You launch a mission to retrieve a surface sample from Jool. You are ambushed by a lone kerbal you left there several decades ago.
<packbart>
welp, they survived on Jool. that's like 6 stars?
<packbart>
!mission
<LunchBot>
You shake hands with Danger Kerman. You are banned from the only internet cafe in the city for vulgarity.
<packbart>
what the ***!!1 why did these *** ban me?!
<Althego>
hehe the chuck norris of kerbals
<raptop>
(and yes, that's an intentional reference to a safety video/music thing)
<Althego>
which one?
<Althego>
you cant beat staplerfahrer klaus in funny safety videos
<Althego>
ah i see shake gands with danger
<raptop>
yeah
<ZLSA>
> i dont really fancy the non-productive launches anymore. like, building a big ass space station doesn't do much for me
<ZLSA>
what does this say about the ISS :P
<raptop>
F
<raptop>
wait, I have to enforce the language rule
<raptop>
Anyway, the ISS did at least get us AMS-2 and the commercial cargo/crew programs
<raptop>
Dunno that the knowledge of how to run a station long term or on-orbit assembly got well distributed outside of NASA/roscosmos, though
<ZLSA>
my uneducated opinion: ISS was good, it's now too expensive and too much of a timesink to be valuable
<ZLSA>
fund commercial station development (which is FINALLY happening) and abandon/deorbit the ISS as soon as possible
<raptop>
If downmass capability grows rapidly enough, bringing some parts back for study or into a museum could be worthwhile. But yeah, it needs to be dropped at some point.
<raptop>
And, well, part of the political reasons for it are breaking down
<SporkWitch>
better plan: put the ISS up for auction
<SporkWitch>
recoup a bit of the money, and potentially see it restored for further service

<raptop>
Sure, though you'll need to have plans for no one bidding and for someone buying but not following through on operating or deorbiting it
<SporkWitch>
granted, but it's worth a try, and we can still deorbit if necessary
