The main engines did ignite, so I'm guessing they didn't like the thrust?
<raptop>
...oh, an SRB failure that *doesn't* destroy the vehicle

G'day!
<Althego>
hi
<Mat2ch>
Is upsidedown morning already? :D
<Althego>
i think new zealand is 12 hours ahead of cet, so even that cant be morning
<Althego>
but it is sufficiently morning in at least some parts of the usa
<Discepto>
Haha, yeah, 0110 here Victoria. Was a sweltering day yesty. Logged into the forum for the first time in eons.. hovered over "More" and saw IRC. I knew there'd be folks on here. XD
<Althego>
not many
<Mat2ch>
But more than you might think
<Discepto>
True, but IRC is just one of those things that always lives on somehow.
<Mat2ch>
We will outlive everything else.
<Mat2ch>
When Whatsapp, Telegram and Signal are all long dead there will be people in here talking.
<sandbox>
didn't we talk about this the other day?
<Althego>
meanwhile an indonesian peafowl fed an austrian chicken

XKCD is always relevant.

I'm connected via the web portal the forum takes you to, but I'll be back over the weekend at some point. Going to reinstall windows tomorrow and make this PC dual boot Ubuntu 22.10; got an IRC client on my lappy. Night y'all!

<Mat2ch>
The cpus they are saying are rather low power... did they fix the cpu limitations?

5600XT is a weird choice
<Izaya>
the 580 has an 8GB variant, I wonder if that'll do the job
<Mat2ch>
My Vega 56 should be on par with the 5600 XT and my Ryzen 2700X enough for the cpu
<Mat2ch>
I'm not worried. But I will only buy the game if we get a linux version.

I'm either just below on CPU or too low to care. I can hit recommended on both RAM and storage, but I'm not in the right order of magnitude for GPU
<raptop>
So, guess it'll have to wait for me building a proper desktop. (2024?)
<minas_tirith>
raptop, hi uwu
<minas_tirith>
Izaya, hi uwu
<Izaya>
I might demo it under WINE but I don't intend to buy it without an actual Linux version yeah
<Izaya>
minas_tirith: sup, been a minute
<SporkWitch>
given how much RTX cards depend on DLSS to really shine in general performance over the 10- and 16-series (for the 20- and 30-series respectively), I'm kind of suspecting that the 10- and 16- seres will still be playable, just not ideal
<SporkWitch>
they don't mention framerate, but we can assume they probably mean 45-60 FPS, given how obsessed people are with high framerates, even on games that don't really get affected as long as it's over 20 or so
<minas_tirith>
Izaya, just alright
<minas_tirith>
bored mostly
<minas_tirith>
has intel written linux drivers for the Arc
<minas_tirith>
I have good hopes regarding it
<minas_tirith>
if they maintain friendly relations with the kernel people they will easily outthrone all other cards in that market
<minas_tirith>
*dethrone
<Izaya>
haven't been keeping up with Intel's cards, I hear they're using DXVK to implement DX on Windows in some cases though, which is wild but not unexpected
<minas_tirith>
they made an egpu recently
<minas_tirith>
I hope they wrote good linux drivers for it
<minas_tirith>
they'd be incredibly dumb not to
<minas_tirith>
Windows customers might feel it is unproven or inferior performance to the amd and nvidia
<Izaya>
I imagine they're at least as good as the Intel HD drivers, which are ... fine.
<minas_tirith>
but if it smoothly works with the linux it will be adopted without even thinking by all the linux customers
<minas_tirith>
I never had a single issue with Intel Integrated Graphics on linux whether for normal applications or video games, so it the Arc drivers are of similar quality that is indeed a good sign
<Izaya>
I gather they can be a headache on the developer side due to OpenGL weirdness, but I don't have any experience with that.
<minas_tirith>
oh?
<Izaya>
I do know that vulkan support goes back to older hardware on linux than other platforms though
<minas_tirith>
I'll have to see
<minas_tirith>
I meant to write a video game one of these days so I will notice if theres anything difficult about it anyways soon
