<SporkWitch> Mat2ch: i think a big reason for that is that thanks to the rise of consoles as the primary development focus for most games, there's just nothing really pushing PC hardware. The only thing since Crysis to even try is Star Citizen, and even that is at least partly an optimization issue, not simply pushing things. As a result, no point to SLI, so why put in the work to keep supporting it?
Nymbat has quit [Ping timeout: 183 seconds]

<Mat2ch> SporkWitch: with SLI I think the userbase was just too small to justify the costs
<SporkWitch> the userbase was small for three reasons: 1) expensive, 2) almost no games supported it, 3) even fewer games needed / benefited from it
<Althego> just like raytracing now :)
<SporkWitch> the games that do support it look freaking gorgeous, though
<SporkWitch> Althego: ^
<Althego> opinions vary on that
<Althego> also heavily decreases framerate
<SporkWitch> definitely a performance trade-off, though everything i have that supports it still runs 45+
<packbart> I bought Shadow of the Tomb Raider to test the RTX-stuff on my 2080S and it is impressive. But it makes the GPU whine and squeal horribly :)
<SporkWitch> now if only elden ring were playable >_< regardless of settings, it has crippling frame stutter
<umaxtu> SporkWitch: valve did some sorcery to get Elden Ring running smoothly on the steamdeck
<SporkWitch> don't have a steam desk though :( lol
<umaxtu> VRR supposedly helps. I didn't really notice that many issues in the hour i've played
<SporkWitch> i spent about 30 minutes or so fighting with it, before i gave up and refunded, which is usually my rule, so i still have a few more tries to wait and see if it's better in a few months.
<umaxtu> doubtful
<SporkWitch> it's a well-known and widespread issue, from the search results, so there's reason to think they're working on it
<SporkWitch> I may just get it on PS4, though. Apparently PS4 version running on PS5 has the best overall graphics and performance currently
<umaxtu> they don't have a great track record for fixing frame pacing issues.

<darsie> Will KSP2 have an option to switch between s and ydms?
<darsie> Is there such a mod for KSP?
<SporkWitch> i'm not sure what you mean be these initialisms
<darsie> seconds, years, days, minutes, seconds.
<darsie> Kerbal Space Program
<SporkWitch> ah, i'm not aware of any such mod. I would assume KSP2 will just be using standard YYYYMMDD-HH:MM:SS (ISO format)
<darsie> months?
<SporkWitch> it's the most logical format, since it's sequential from largest to smallest, and it can continue indefinitely when greater precision is needed
<SporkWitch> years months days - hours minutes seconds, and then decimal for as much precision as needed
<darsie> How many months in a year?
<SporkWitch> not sure; might be on the wiki. i only know a day is 6 hours on kerbin
<darsie> 65.22 Muns/year
<SporkWitch> 66.23 months in a kerbin year, 426.08 kerbin days in a year
<darsie> doing math with ymdhms sucks.
<darsie> Has anyone even tried doing that without converting to s or so?
<SporkWitch> interestingly, a kerbin month is only about 6 days long
<SporkWitch> (though i guess that would be "munth")
<darsie> A munth should be Kerbin sideral period/Mun synodic period, I think.
Nymbat has quit [Ping timeout: 189 seconds]
<SporkWitch> 426.08 days divided by 66.23 months gives 6.433338 (and a bunch further) days
<SporkWitch> just going by the maths on the wiki, and assuming it's basing the months on the mun
<darsie> I got 65.22 Muns/year, the wiki says 66.23
<darsie> Obviously a munth is from full Mun to full Mun.
<darsie> And since orbits are circular there's no variation.
<SporkWitch> i assume it's assuming a month as a full orbital period of the mun, rather than trying to calculate lunar cycles
<darsie> Are Kerbal days sideral or synodic?
<SporkWitch> not sure
<darsie> On Earth they are synodic.
<darsie> We keep noon at 12 pm, kinda.
<SporkWitch> per the wiki i linked above, noon is always 0:00:00
<darsie> Where?
<SporkWitch> i linked it above, right before you sent 65.22Muns/year
<darsie> At the KSC?
<darsie> This is because humans usally refer at a 24 hours long solar day, while Kerbals usually refer to a 6 hours long stellar day.
<darsie> Noon on Kerbin always occurs on hour 0 minute 0 and second 0 where the day and year are variable. (Year ?, Day ?, 0:00:00)
<darsie> what?
<SporkWitch> given the grammar on much of it, i think the author just added the mention of day and year to feel like he sounded more intelligent lol
<darsie> Did you just guess her gender?
<darsie> s/guess/assume
<SporkWitch> it is standard convention in english to use masculine when the sex of the individual is unknown. This stems back to when we dropped the more explicit masculine signifiers, e.g. wereman and wyfman became just man and woman, with man being both masculine and neuter
<SporkWitch> This is also why in writings where you see reference to "man" as a plural it refers to mankind, meaning humans, not just male humans
<Deddly> In Swedish, it the other way around in some contexts. Just because someone uses "he" or "she" doesn't automatically mean someone is assuming gender.
