You instigate a revolution against the Tsiolkovsky, tyrant of the rocket equation. You spend all that remains of your budget on cleaning up the mess you made.

the 1 performance core hits 1ghz, and the 4 efficiency cores are each 700mhz
<X>
It's on a 9w base power though, so I feel like they're just being like...oh yeah, we need to make something even crappier so there will be some awful processor for the absolute cheapest computers.
<Althego>
1 ghz? isnt that more like some embedded stuff?
<X>
I m
<X>
Sorry. My screen messed up.
<X>
I would think it'd be embedded but it's not specifically stated to be.
<X>
Also I think 9w is a lot for embeded.
<X>
Maybe somewhere out there someone needs really fast ram and PCI 4.0 but nothing for processor
<Althego>
then what is the point. underpowered for normal usage and too high power consumption for embedded

I have no idea. I can't even find an example of it in the wild to see how it benchmarks
<X>
You can kind of see what happened here. The i5s have a slower turbo boost than the i7s. The i3s have half of the efficiency cores that the i5's have. Then when they drop from i3 to pentium, they have only one performance core.
<X>
But when they go from pentium, not only do they remove the hyperthreading on the performance core, they also get rid of the turbo boost.
<X>
So the performance core that's nominally 1.0 ghz that can turbo boost to 4.4ghz can't even do that anymore.

...that thing has a worse benchmark than my 7 year old laptop
<raptop>
(let alone the 4 year old one)
<X>
Hey, I'm currently on a J1800, and its benchmark is like 622 for passmark.
<X>
But yes, it's awful for the benchmark.
<raptop>
Wintendo: i5-7500U (3656 on passmark), work machine: i7-8665U (6263 on passmark)
<X>
Yeah, the benchmark for the 8505 which is basically that celeron but with turbo boost enabled is 7600.
<raptop>

I just feel sorry for all the children who will be getting brand new 200 dollar windows laptops this black friday with a 7305 in it.
<X>
Unless you were raising your eyebrow at the J1800
<raptop>
I was at the order of magnitude difference that one feature makes on the benchmark
<X>
In which case, I got it on clearance at best buy for 50 bucks back in 2014 or 2015.
<X>
Yep. Turbo boost for one core...does that much.
<X>
I just got a nuc with the i3 1230p, which is slightly better than the U series, and it benches at 15000
<X>
Yeah, the 1215U, which is the same as the pentium, but with 2 performance cores benches at 11453.

only like 2 hours late but it always made me laugh that my $200 used thinkpad could outperform 6-year-younger high end laptops in CPU benchmarks (because it had an -M CPU rather than a -U CPU and therefore got to use like 35W rather than 5
