<Bornholio> morning awang
<soundnboston> 'lo Bornholio
<awang> soundnboston: New soundnfury name?
<soundnboston> yup
<soundnboston> I'm in the US for a conference
<awang> Ah
<awang> On what?
<soundnboston> linux kernel networking
<awang> Oh right
<awang> Forgot you're the resident kernel dev
<soundnboston> :)
<awang> There are conferences specifically for linux kernel networking?
<awang> Seems... oddly specific
<soundnboston> awang: sure! there's this one (netconf) which is just a small meetup of ~16 core guys, then there's netdev which is more of a conventional conference (couple of hundred folks)
<soundnboston> and there's a networking track at Linux Plumbers
<awang> Huh
<awang> Is it more research-related stuff, long-term implementation planning, or what?
<soundnboston> don't forget, there are literally thousands of kernel devs around the world
<soundnboston> mostly implementation planning, yeah
<soundnboston> we say "here's my problem, here's my idea to fix it, am I crazy? does anyone have a better idea?"
<awang> Thousands of active paid-to-work-on-it kernel devs?
<awang> Why not have that conversation on the mailing list?
<awang> Besides having an excuse to travel :P
<Bornholio> network between nwtworking working workers
<soundnboston> awang: because face-to-face discussions are higher bandwidth. And lower latency!
<Bornholio> almost as good as a truck full of harddrives :)
<soundnboston> hehe
<awang> Bornholio: that has a heck of a lot of latency though :P
<awang> btw, anyone pay attention to Intel's Optane announcement?
<awang> Or something along those lines
<Bornholio> something the last couple days?
<Bornholio> ah ddr4 sticks
<awang> Yeah
<awang> DDR4 with fancy PRAM or something
<awang> Probably not as magic as they claim, but promising
<Bornholio> zero time starts would be nice
<Bornholio> plus the sizes are pretty nice
<Bornholio> having 2TB of persistent ram...

<Rokker> Bornholio: ive just seen a list of some of the aircraft in storage at the museum
<Rokker> and all i can say is that im very disappointed in the museum
<Bornholio> are they getting cleanup and restore work?
<Rokker> no
<Rokker> some
<Rokker> but most of them no
<Rokker> Bornholio: we have BOTH XP-81s
<Rokker> in storage
<Rokker> Bornholio: there is a spanish licensed He 111 that neither I nor any other member of the public has ever seen
<Rokker> SOMEWHERE in the museum storage
<Bornholio> might be crated
<Bornholio> looks like it needs wings and stuff put on plus lots of work
<Rokker> Bornholio: sad
<Bornholio> donate a few million dollars rokker
<Rokker> Bornholio: maybe i will
<Bornholio> wiat donate them to me
<Bornholio> :P
<Rokker> Bornholio: ok this is actually disgusting
<Rokker> the XF-90 is in horrid shape
<Bornholio> yeah like i said a few million here and there plus 40 more for a new building. all those planes could be on display
<Rokker> Bornholio: eh, the buildings were easy to fund for the most part
<Rokker> they arent fully funded yet but boeing and lockmart paid a shit ton to get their names on the galleries
<Rokker> Bornholio: like more than 5 million each
<Rokker> Bornholio: I'm surprised GE didnt donate a god damned thing
<Bornholio> not i said the pig
<Bornholio> GE is in a weird state now
<Rokker> Bornholio: well the weird thing is GE has a pretty massive presence in the greater cincinnati-dayton area for obvious reasons yet you have even Rolls Royce donating more than GE
<Rokker> since GE didnt donate anything and RR donated an engine and like 10l
<Rokker> 10k
<Bornholio> left wing politics and international presence. they push all their profits out of the US and your still wonder? Take a look at how much US tax they pay
<Rokker> hmmm
<Rokker> fair point i suppose
<Bornholio> look bunny eaters
<Bornholio> electric lawn darts
<Rokker> yeah I saw
<lamont> i would like a mod that did nothing else other than to analyze RCS thrusters and see if they could pull any fuel. and if the amount of resources on any of them was zero then it would gently flash “hey dipshit your RCS is set wrong”
<Bornholio> .upVote
<Bornholio> also tired of not having fuel indicators on them
<lamont> oh it looks like i set them right, it looks like the RF build i’m using might be buggy?
<lamont> “Current config: MMH+NTO” … “Requires: Nitrogen: 274.6009/sec. Max”
<Bornholio> extra weird
<lamont> whoah now i click around and come back and select it again and it requires MMH+NTO properly… weirdo...
<lamont> keep resetting to nitrogen on launch

<soundnboston> yup
<soundnboston> currently learning about SCTP
<soundnboston> and wondering what the point of it is ;)
<Bornholio> less hacky?
<soundnboston> than what?
<Bornholio> tcp
<soundnboston> is it though?
<Bornholio> .shrug

<Starwaster> working on Kilopower configs for Real ISRU Bornholio (and anyone else interested)
<Bornholio> good deal, cheers starwaster
<Starwaster> initially I was going to treat it like an RTG where it isn't throttleable at all but the docs I've read indicate it self regulates the reactor according to power requirements. If full power isn't needed then it cools down the core. If more power is needed then it ramps things up
<Bornholio> yes, sure does
<Bornholio> plus "waste" heat is more managable and useful
