But, bout the landing: I did the offset COM thing and could manage "level flight" @25km for perhaps 15 degrees of longitude, but would still come in way too fast.

In the end I used a cobination of angled base plate and engines to keep me aloft while parachutes were used to kill off the horizontal speed.

i did lots of testing and as long as your not too aerodynamic or heavy 45km pe will drop you out and i can even get chutes to work with very little retro
