<Pap>
Have you seen any of the pushes I have done for it?
<Bornholio>
yes looking good. spose i should go proof read
<Pap>
Lol, there isn't a lot of text yet, just layout so far
<Pap>
I talked to Maxsimal last night

ooh dragoon him into fixin contracts for 1.5 :)
<Starwaster>
dragoon?
<Starwaster>
bornholio dragoon?
<Bornholio>
verb
<Bornholio>
verb: dragoon; 3rd person present: dragoons; past tense: dragooned; past participle: dragooned; gerund or present participle: dragooning
<Bornholio>
1.
<Bornholio>
coerce (someone) into doing something.
<Bornholio>
"she had been dragooned into helping with the housework"
<Starwaster>
I dunno, sounds shady to me

<Bornholio>
yes!
<Starwaster>
OK THIS IS TOTAL BULLSHIT
<Starwaster>
pardon caps
<Starwaster>
I used the F12 cheat menu to put myself in a 0 inclination orbit
<Starwaster>
and you KNOW it is perfectly 0
<Starwaster>
I started a land at target descent and made sure that the longitude was 0
<Starwaster>
SO WHY DO I HAVE TO DO A PLANE CHANGE???
<Starwaster>
where the **** am I going to plane change to?
<Starwaster>
and even if it was a fraction of a degree off, I can't steer that out during descent?
<Starwaster>
ok rant mode off
<Bornholio>
lol
<Starwaster>
oh look!
<Starwaster>
it got to the plane change burn point...
<Starwaster>
AND DECIDED NOT TO DO THE BURN
<Starwaster>
it just wasted 3/4 of an orbit for no reasno at all
<Starwaster>
W - T - F
<Bornholio>
back in my childish stock days i could beat MJ to the pad by several orders of magnitude fly by seat of my pants
<Starwaster>
yeah but I'm doing this to test out some MJ changes so I don't have that option
<Starwaster>
I need it to do a descent on its own from start to finish
<Bornholio>
isn't it running a sequencer style process for that
<Starwaster>
so this is really about it wasting my time because after this iteration it's back to Xamarin for more code work probably
<Starwaster>
what do you mean? for what?
<Bornholio>
landing, docking rend, etc
<Bornholio>
first match plane, then ...
<Starwaster>
but it's in the same plane
<Bornholio>
hey pap wasn't i in dev group on 'cord
<Pap>
I would assume you were Bornholio I'll re-add you, they did some things while I was gone

Starwaster, have you done any research into MLI when coding/balancing it? There are rumors 100 layers allow you to go interplanetary without noticeable lh2 boiloff, which sounds...quite good? ;)
<soundnfury>
Mike`: in fairness, thinking about it, odds are you'll either see tiny percentage boiloff, or everything boils away in days
<soundnfury>
a priori it's unlikely to land in the "well some boiled off but not too much" range
<Mike`>
well, not wanting to imply it is badly done, i'm not even sure how well it works irl and would rather want to know more about that
<soundnfury>
Pap: dish costs got buggered again, now Pioneer and Voyager dishes both have zero cost
<Pap>
How did that happen?
<soundnfury>
v0v
<soundnfury>
sheet was still wrong and someone regenned from it? idk

<Starwaster>
mike` considerable research. I'm pretty confident in the radiation + conduction components. Somewhat less so on the convective aspect but that's only relevant in atmospheres.... in the interest of playability I greatly reduced the convective coefficient so that MLI is still useful in atmo
<Starwaster>
MLI is best used combined with active cooling to catch whatever manages to leak through the MLI
<Starwaster>
Mars DRA 5 estimates that a 10x22 meter tank with 60-70 layers can reduce heat leakage to a mere 70 watts. (total leakage through the entire tank surface in LEO where the heat leak is projected to be at its worst)
<Starwaster>
actual in-game performance may vary considering that part surface temperature tends to be lower than what it would be IRL because Reasons.
<Starwaster>
one other area that still needs work though is analytic which lerps between a start temperature and an end temperature at the same rate per update tick regardless of time warp rate... so warping at 100000x will leak heat at the same rate (in actual real world time) as it would at 1000x
<Starwaster>
so warping as fast as possible (once tanks are chilled down) is an unrealistically useful strategy :(
<Mike`>
interesting, so if the test was done using alot of warp that might explain it. hm. :(
