itsRyan. — Just a quick positive report on Test 2574: I just did Pioneer style lunar orbit mission (spin stabilized from TLI cutoff) and it went perfectly. No perturbations of the probe's spin or node-relative orientation after 4 days of warping. Insertion burn went as planned. 👍
<discord->
itsRyan. — I know that wasn't the main issue, just wanted to report that was still working.
<discord->
Sirius. — @itsRyan How did you know when you should launch?
<discord->
itsRyan. — @Sirius My TLI stage was guided. So not "full" Pioneer lol. But it was a pure Hohmann TLI from a high lattitude, so maybe partial credit? 🙂 After TLI I oriented to the lunar insertion node, spun, and released the unguided probe.
<discord->
Sirius. — Hm ok
<discord->
Sirius. — So you could launch anyday with it
<discord->
Sirius. — So you could launch any day with it (edited)
<discord->
itsRyan. — Correct. I have a KOS script that gives me the timing for lunar intercept plane at high latitudes. Two windows per day.
<discord->
Sirius. — Oh
<discord->
itsRyan. — I had a look at the real Pioneer launch control algorithms. Pretty advanced math there (and it didn't work 😝 ). I'll stick with the once-around the Earth launches thank you very much.
<discord->
_felixu_. — Can I use any of the Earth-Moon Lagrange points to establish permanent farside comms?
<discord->
_felixu_. — At least on half of the far side, maybe?

Sir Mortimer. — Sure, if you like stationkeeping a lot 🙂
<discord->
Sir Mortimer. — You don’t even get half of the far side from L4 & L5. So the „best“ option would be a orbit at L2 that’s wide enough to be not blocked by the moon, but it’s an unstable position to begin with, and widening it won’t help
<discord->
Sir Mortimer. — actually that would be a nice mission

Kobymaru. — is principia making the terrain shimmy?
<discord->
Damien. — Unlikely
<discord->
Butcher. — @Kobymaru It's a squad bug.
<discord->
_felixu_. — @Kobymaru I've heard having terrain scatters on could be causing it. They're not used by RSS anyway (unfortunately) so you may as well disable them if you've got them on
<discord->
Kobymaru. — ok, I'll try it thanks
