egg changed the topic of #principia to: Logs: https://esper.irclog.whitequark.org/principia | <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly…

<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ Al₂Me₆ you may have noticed that the Sun-Neptune equipotentials were especially screwed up (and the Sun-Pluto equipotentials cause an instant crash). I think the reason here is that I need to take the barycentre of the subsystem as a secondary, otherwise the angular velocity varies wildly.
<queqiao-> ⟨Al₂Me₆⟩ ‘As a secondary’ isn’t the planet the secondary?
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ yes, but if the planet has a moon, it gets shaken around a bit
<queqiao-> ⟨Al₂Me₆⟩ I’m afraid I’m still confused 😅
<queqiao-> ⟨Bee Rights Activist⟩ I think Pluto is bad because the pluto-charon system is weird and looks like a binary star system, so the frame should really be sun-(plutocharon barycenter)
<queqiao-> or at least that’s what my mortal brain can comprehend
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ yes, but the same is true of the Neptune-Triton system.
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ ⟪Al₂Me₆⟫ I’m afraid I’m still confused 😅 ⮪ The rotating-pulsating reference frame is defined by keeping two points immobile. If one of these points is the centre of Neptune, and Neptune gets sped up and slowed down by Triton, the angular velocity of the system varies wildly. This in turn leads to the ridge in the geometric potential moving in and out.
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ Just look at the SNL equipotentials in your build, this should be apparent
<queqiao-> ⟨Al₂Me₆⟩ Ah, I see. Need my morning tea…
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ Hm, tea sounds like an idea. Bit early for afternoon tea though…
<queqiao-> ⟨egg⟩ Time for a coffee then
<queqiao-> ⟨Bee Rights Activist⟩ Meanwhile, me staring at my monitor at 10:40pm:
<queqiao-> ⟨vevladdd 🇺🇦⟩ Meanwhile, me staring at my monitor at 0500:
<queqiao-> ⟨Unofficial Aesthetic Inspector⟩ why u be staring at your monitor on 0500 hours 💀 💀
<queqiao-> ⟨vevladdd 🇺🇦⟩ I used to work 0000-0400 & 1300-1700
<queqiao-> ⟨vevladdd 🇺🇦⟩ ~life~ work at sea is nice
<queqiao-> ⟨vevladdd 🇺🇦⟩ & "the big bang theory " show is addictive

<queqiao-> ⟨Unofficial Aesthetic Inspector⟩ How do I make sure that my stage gets a free return very close to the moon?
<queqiao-> ⟨test_account⟩ Try increasing tli dv a bit
<queqiao-> ⟨Unofficial Aesthetic Inspector⟩ Well that didn't improve a lot.
<queqiao-> ⟨test_account⟩ Without adding non prograde components
<queqiao-> ⟨test_account⟩ Play only with dv and maneuver time
<queqiao-> ⟨Unofficial Aesthetic Inspector⟩ Look, so do I just like, reach my apoapsis on the moon and then just start burning to reduce the trajectory to Earth's atmo?
<queqiao-> ⟨test_account⟩ Ideally, you dont need any burns on the free return trajectory
<queqiao-> ⟨test_account⟩ But a little burn after moin flyby xan maje it easier
<queqiao-> ⟨test_account⟩ * moon flyby can
<queqiao-> ⟨test_account⟩ * make
<queqiao-> ⟨Unofficial Aesthetic Inspector⟩ This is getting annoying
<queqiao-> The closer I get to the moon, the farther I get from Earth.
<queqiao-> ⟨test_account⟩ Yes, i find getting close than 3mm difficult
<queqiao-> ⟨test_account⟩ But 3mm is ok for the contract
<queqiao-> ⟨Unofficial Aesthetic Inspector⟩ ⟪test_account⟫ But 3mm is ok for the contract ⮪ 3Mm and lower is what the contract says?
<queqiao-> ⟨test_account⟩ 5mm
<queqiao-> ⟨Unofficial Aesthetic Inspector⟩ I got to 5Mm while editing but i didnt know it was 5Mm
<queqiao-> ⟨Unofficial Aesthetic Inspector⟩ I thought it was like 500km
<queqiao-> ⟨Unofficial Aesthetic Inspector⟩ Hmm. Relaunched the vehicle, seems like it was more my fault on the ascent profile. Did it again, the same manouever parameters, yet it easily reaches below 1 Mm.
