You install all of the realism mods. Even Danny2462 thinks you're crazy.

whoa too much realismn

Althego: Thanks for the link. Would've missed that

still could be a weather scrub. no tweet from spacex for a while now

<kremlin>
hihi, dumb question..
<kremlin>
you know how you can't transmit "through a planet" ?
<kremlin>
e.g. the face of whatever surface site is to receive isn't pointing at you, you lose your connection?
<kremlin>
is the solution to this, to have 3-4 satelites in the same orbit, equally spaced, or something similar?
<kremlin>
with large antennas
<Izzy>
one could say, build a satellite network?
<kremlin>
yes, what is the KSP term for this?
<kremlin>
i am looking for e.g. a wiki page
<Izzy>
pretty sure it's just called building a satellite network
<Althego>
you dont need large antennas. i just put hg-5 on them
<Izzy>
I found a spreadsheet to do the maths for the orbits for me on a youtube video
<Althego>
and repurpose old contract satellites
<Izzy>
at some point I should Fully Automate the satellite deployment because half the time the Ap is on the far side of a given body when I'm setting up a satellite net so I have no connection >.> thankfully I can usually quickload and make a maneuver node for kOS to execute

<darsie>
kremlin: 2 sats may suffice.
<darsie>
in high orbit
<darsie>
I sync their orbital periods to ms precision with KER.
<Pinkbeast>
There's a mod to spend monoprop in the tracking station to do very fine orbital adjustments, handy if KSP is in a "maybe I'll make your orbit wander a bit" mood
<darsie>
For very tiny orbital period changes I don't blow straight pro/retrograde, but go to (anti)normal and tilt very slightly pro/retrograde.
<darsie>
with 0.5% engine thrust and short, minimal throttle pulses.
<darsie>
In Vienna it's 27 C on October 13. That wipes out a lot of species.
<Mat2ch>
1:30 h left
<Mat2ch>
almost
<darsie>
then what?
<Mat2ch>
It's rather warm here, too.
<Mat2ch>
Falcon Heavy launch
<darsie>
ahh, psyche?
<Mat2ch>
I haven't had to use the heating in here...
<Mat2ch>
maybe next week,
<Mat2ch>
yes, Psyche
<SporkWitch>
it was 30C here just a week or two ago; absolutely ridiculous. I'm near the Canadian border, it should not be 30 in october
<Mat2ch>
Last year I had to turn on heating at the end of September...
<Mat2ch>
But climate change is a hoax and Earth is flat!
<SporkWitch>
AGW isn't a hoax, but the remaining activists are liars and extremists.
<SporkWitch>
that question was settled with the Berkley Earth project, which was the last legitimate scientific criticism of the veracity of AGW. But the activist organizations, more accurately their employees, didn't want to find new jobs, so they have to lie and create a need for their ongoing existence to get people to keep paying them, hence all the "world is ending in 10 years" nonsense
<kremlin>
hmm, is ther a part that just saps power for no reason, to test a nuclaer reactor's performance?
<darsie>
kremlin: Any computer draws a little.
<Althego>
maybe some electric motor?
<darsie>
Lights, too, IIRC.
<kremlin>
kk
<darsie>
A refinery if you have ore, too.
<darsie>
and receiving tanks.
<Althego>
you can put the ore in the tanks in the vab
<darsie>
Engineers will increase productivity and energy consumption.
<darsie>
reaction wheels if you use them.
<kremlin>
Ooh, putting a ton of empty batteries is working
<darsie>
yeah
<darsie>
Are you playing career? Completed the tech tree?
<kremlin>
Science mode
<darsie>
KSP1?
<kremlin>
yep
<darsie>
Go career :)
<darsie>
I forgot, what's science mode? That's not sand box, right?
<kremlin>
No money but you still have to earn science to unlock the tech tree
<darsie>
ic
<darsie>
I ran out of money once in career and had to restart.
<kremlin>
I tried career but I moved to science b/c I was sick of launching the same boring sats
<darsie>
The last few times I started career I had an efficient path to fully upgrade all buildings and complete the tech tree. Quite different from all the messing around with various contracts and getting familiar with KSP.
<kremlin>
Hmm, I should give it another shot
<darsie>
I could tell you my efficient path, but that might make you miss out on messing with other stuff.
<Mat2ch>
Running out of money in career mode? How...
<Althego>
you can spend so much that you cant afford the next mission
<Mat2ch>
it's quiet easy to get much money: Do the basic contracts. They give you enough money for everything
<Mat2ch>
And if you want to max out the science tree... go farming. ;)
<Mat2ch>
Get all the science from Kerbin, then go to the Mun, land on every Biome (bring a refueler!), then go back to Kerbin. Now you should have enough science points to get the lab.
<Althego>
minmus is a science treasure chest
<Althego>
easy to hop around, bigger multiplier
<Mat2ch>
Do the same thing with Minmus, but work on the science in the lab. Is tedious, but will max out the science tree, before you even have to go to Duna...
<Mat2ch>

My Munlander keeps sliding down the slope of a crater...
<Mat2ch>
Someone at the KSC had fun with the teflon gun. Again.
<Mat2ch>
(and painted the whole Mun apparently)
<Althego>
but you can now nail a docking port to the fround
<Mat2ch>
Didn't bring one...
<Mat2ch>
I totally forgot about that, too :D
<Mat2ch>
Well, time to plant the flag and go home.
<sandbox>
am I still the only person who took flags to space?
Ezriilc has joined #KSPOfficial
<Mat2ch>
flags to space?
<sandbox>
yes
<Mat2ch>
how?
<sandbox>
it's a secret...
<Mat2ch>
technically a flag on the Mun is one in space, too.
<Althego>
i think flags can fall
<Althego>
then they are just movable objects
<sandbox>
you plant them on your ship
<Althego>
and you can collect them and take them
<sandbox>
build a rocket with a flat piece just above the ground
<sandbox>
you can plant as many flags as you like on it
<sandbox>
they soon fall off in flight
<Mat2ch>
That's sad.
<Mat2ch>
But you could build a bucket and keep them in. :D
<sandbox>
exactly
<Althego>
hehe. in early career once i needed to test a stack separator. but i also didnt want to leave orbital debris, and i didnt have most of the parts. so i built a cage around it from metal plates
<Mat2ch>
Althego: I remember doing things like that, too.
<Mat2ch>
Or bringing a claw to immediately catch it
<kremlin>
ah
<Althego>
one of the most horrible retreival missions. had to collect a huge decoupler, you have to eyeball the ring, otherwise you just fly through in the middle
<kremlin>
so that is why you do not use weapons grade uranium in a nuclear reactor
<kremlin>
(it works too well)
<Mat2ch>
Althego: at least somewhat realistic :D
