<TheWireLord>

TheWireLord: I continue to be encouraged by the videos the KSP2 team are putting out
<FLHerne>
Who knows about the release date, but they clearly have the right attitude to the game
<FLHerne>
and some really cool ideas
<Mat2ch>
I'm not a fan about the interstellar travel engines. At least not the nuclear bomb one... to obvious that this wouldn't work long enough to get anywhere. (Shock absorbers will soften and soften if used heavily and will need replacement. Nobody cared about that)
<Althego>
there is a russian spacewalk around the poisk module
<Mat2ch>
And travel times, well... at half the speed of light you would need eight years to get to the nearest star iirc. But KSP can make them closer and Kerbals sometimes get forgotton for hundreds of years ;)
<Althego>
forget that, we cant even get up to 10%
TheWireLord has quit [Quit: webchat.esper.net]
<Mat2ch>
We could use Starship to send a probe up that can get to 10 %. Then it would take 40 years to get there, but we know that it is possible
<Mat2ch>
so in 44 years we could see images from another star up close
<Mat2ch>
This is nothing in the space exploration timeframe
<Mat2ch>
but it is entirely possible we can catch up to that probe and even overtake it with technologies we develop in those 44 years.
<Althego>
but you have to try
<Althego>
because without the tech created for the probe
<Althego>
there will be no even faster tech
<Mat2ch>
yes. We have to and we should totally go for it.
<cringe>
I reached out to them when it went down, never heard back
<funkenstein>
naturally, because once you're in the "high place" ( whether it's really that great or not) you get self important and have no time for anyone who isn't known enough
<cringe>
yeah, i should just reply DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM
<cringe>
but might be weird sicne its been over a year

FLHerne: do you want to go out inbetween to star systems and change them? There's a nuclear deflector nearby which is radiating all kinds of stuff very close nearby...
<Mat2ch>
too man nearbys...

add some lines to replace the hydraulic fluid in situ, use pressure-lubricated seals instead of plain rubber ones and so on
<FLHerne>
there's no reason they *have* to wear out after <n> cycles, it's just that car ones are designed to be the cheapest thing that doesn't wear out under warranty
<FLHerne>
and the bigger they are, the more practical it is to trade simplicity for lifetime

And on a spaceship you want to design stuff as long lasting as possible, but you have to consider weight as well

You also don't want spaceships to be excessively expensive.
<Mat2ch>
