<packbart> Steam updating KSP. a new patch?
<packbart> https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/210392-kerbal-space-program-1124-releasing-11-2-2022/
<packbart> err
<packbart> ah, yeah, it is the correct link
<SporkWitch> saw that too; i just assumed it was my save syncing with cloud, since i didn't see patchnotes
<packbart> mostly fixes to the tutorials (finally ;)
<SporkWitch> tutorial fixes are nice for newbies that will probably take advantage of holiday sales to see if they want to get KSP2, but the addition of a launcher annoys me. That's one of the nice things about the Steam version: the extra launcher is disabled by default >_<
<SporkWitch> as long as it automatically links to steam account, fine, it's tolerable, but if it's like rockstar where you have to actually make a separate account and sign in manually i'm gonna be pissed
<packbart> like EVE, Elite, StarCash, etc... (ok, those are all online games)
<packbart> I don't really see why KSP2 would need a special account
<SporkWitch> annoys me with them too, but at least in the case of EVE it also has the defense of having released as a physical box first, and shortly after through their own website; availability on steam came YEARS later
<SporkWitch> (I actually have an original physical copy of EVE)
<SporkWitch> that's certainly possible. There are a small minority of people that will buy off steam if they get an extra launcher either way. The makers of DCS stopped providing CD keys with steam purchases for a similar reason, as there was no good reason NOT to buy on Steam, since you could get everything linked to steam but if you wanted to try that new work-in-progress airframe you could still add the
<SporkWitch> key to their system and install the standalone launcher
<SporkWitch> They still make things available on steam, but now ONLY once it's fully released.
<SporkWitch> (and buying on their site doesn't give a key usable on Steam, either; they shared servers, but they basically killed the convenience of having it in Steam to favor their own store; can't fully blame them for wanting to eliminate Valve's cut)

<Izaya> > Launcher ... will serve as a resource for News and updates about KSP
<Izaya> like how there's no more updates to KSP and it will be entirely ads for KSP2?
* Izaya squints
<SporkWitch> another reason it's annoying they're putting it on KSP1, heh. Besides, Steam has functionality to show patchnotes in the downloads list (link to click) and post when you click the game in your library, as well. If you don't have it on steam, you're using their launcher already. So yeah, it's really just annoying for steam users.

<SporkWitch> astra's the australian telecom, right?
<packbart> I meant the TV satellites over Europe. it was a bad joke about how I don't watch links from Hotbirds
<packbart> it might have been funnier in my head, tbh
<SporkWitch> *shrugs* spacex pinged me and i was still awak

<ILOVEPIE> This is the stupidest BS i've ever seen in over 10 years of playing KSP, If this crap is in KSP 2 I will not be buying the game. Period.
<Mat2ch> well
<ILOVEPIE> You can take your launcher and shove it where the sun don't shine

<Mat2ch> since nobody of the developers is watching us here you better complain in the forum
<Mat2ch> AAARGH
<Eddi|zuHause2> good moring to you, too :p
<Mat2ch> It's almost noon!
<sandbox> a launcher that advertises KSP2...
<Mat2ch> Because nobody who plays KSP watches news anymore or what?
<Mat2ch> Sometimes I can't understand the train of thoughts some people have to come to such conclusions. Even if I try very hard, I just can't.
<Mat2ch> Someone spent hours of their life to create this launcher that does not add anything to the game, to the experience or for the users
Eddi|zuHause2 is now known as Eddi|zuHause
<Eddi|zuHause> so, i actually skimmed this reddit thread... and i tend to be on the "if they add modding support to the launcher" camp...
<Eddi|zuHause> also, i don't think i've even started the game in like 3 years
<Althego> to be honest the launcher worked only for a brief time
<Althego> so i always bypassed it
<Mat2ch> The wont add modding support to the launcher. Otherwise they will have to take care of the mods.
<Mat2ch> Right now it is free labor for them.
<Eddi|zuHause> dunno, in my experience, good modding support makes for much better longevity of a game
<packbart> well, the Community Launcher worked out well enough for XCOM 2...
<Mat2ch> Didn't Take2 add a launcher to Borderlands2 and breaking the Linux port?
<packbart> nah, I can't bring myself to fret over what dreadful things KSP 2 will bring. too soon
<Mat2ch> hehe
<Mat2ch> I expect a lot of pain.
<packbart> I'm more optimistic

<darsie> What's a launcher? A program that enforces DRM and starts KSP?
<darsie> Or a rocket launch platform?
<Mat2ch> a launcher that is just annoying.
<Mat2ch> and displays some advertisment for KSP2
<Mat2ch> Other game developers make an update for their old games displaying an image, but no, Take2 needs a launcher.
<umaxtu> they just want to make their games worse on steam deck
<darsie> Stupid youtube video titles ... 8 Bear Encounters You Really Shouldn't Watch
<Eddi|zuHause> it's launchers all the way down
<Izaya> okay sweet I won't
<darsie> wrong channel ...
<Eddi|zuHause> sometimes when peope write "wrong channel" i wonder if there ever is a right channel for those sentences :p
<umaxtu> is there a /r/wrongchannel ?
<Mat2ch> not yet.
<Mat2ch> You should start it.
<umaxtu> don't have the time
<Mat2ch> I feel you. I can only be here, because of a cold that keeps me from working on my projects :/

<Izaya> shower thought: if I hadn't heard about it, I probably wouldn't have ever noticed the launcher; I only play via CKAN and launching the game from the executable
<Mat2ch> I start the game by calling the executable in a terminal...
<umaxtu> hopefully ksp2 will also let you bypass the launcher
<darsie> I wrote a .desktop file for the executable.
<Althego> i just pinned it on the taskbar
<Izaya> Mat2ch: I usually have a terminal with two tabs, one to run ./run.sh, which runs with mangohud, and another to tail -f /tmp/KSP.log
<Althego> kikkerikii / mep
<Mat2ch> Izaya: why the log?
<Mat2ch> umaxtu: no, but have some lootboxes!
<umaxtu> yay!

<Althego> so the 1.12.4 fix, will that fix the engine problem in the tutorials?
<Althego> or maybe i can just try it
<Althego> hehe i dont remember the password
* raptop gave up a few years ago and started duing password manager stuff
<raptop> Anyway, they *claim* that it's fixed
<raptop> But remember how literal years seperated the patch notes on spinning up Kerbin from it actually being done?
<umaxtu> which one are you using raptop?
<raptop> mostly firefox >.>;;
<darsie> What version is KSP2?
* darsie launches KSP.
<raptop> oh, the KSP version is "coming soon"
<Althego> when it's done :)
<raptop> er, KSP2 version
<darsie> Will it be KSP 2.0?
<raptop> It would be amusing if they started with version 2.0
<Althego> no, probably KSP2 1.0 whwn released
<Althego> still better than usb :)
<darsie> More like KSP2 0.1.13 when released.
<darsie> ok 0.7.15

<darsie> I could rescue her and fail the contract by not bringing her back.
<darsie> in 21 years.
<darsie> oops, I took of in the wrong direction ...
<darsie> off
<darsie> Irsy is in a mobile processing lab :).

<raptop> or something
<Althego> they are so happy
<darsie> Does it require electricity? Or an antenna?
<darsie> Yeah :)
<darsie> A Lab with KerbNet access can "level up" any crew on the vessel.
<darsie> Now if I had an engineer I could tinker something ...
<darsie> "KerbNet requires a comms connection through to Kerbin and a scientist in the lab module." What?
