<Judge_Dedd>
So... Tesla Cybertruck will have a version with pressurised cabin for use on Mars
<Kracc>
allegedly
<Judge_Dedd>
Well, according to their CEO/chief engineer
<Kracc>
yeah he's said a lot of things
<Judge_Dedd>
Most of the stuff he says is true when it comes to actual products
<Judge_Dedd>
I mean, he gets deadlines wrong a lot of the time, but does make an honest effort to deliver
<Kracc>
we'll see some wheeled transportation on mars, still dont think it'll be the cybertruck
<Kracc>
the design will be a few decades old by the time any significant human presence is established on mars that warrants a consumer vehicle like that
<Judge_Dedd>
Very likely
ergZay has joined #KSPOfficial
<Althego>
where we are going... there are no roads
<Althego>
you really need an all terrain vehicle on mars
<Judge_Dedd>
Knowing him, as soon as they get Starship operational, he'll have a remote-controlled one sent to Mars as a dummy payload just for the publicity
<Kracc>
ngl starship will probably be hauling shit to the moon for a while before anything is attempted with mars
<Judge_Dedd>
When taking your truck to Mars, always remember to deflate the tyres and empty the air suspension before the trip
<Kracc>
and dont get me started with crew rating it
<Judge_Dedd>
Kracc, no swearing, please
<Kracc>
oop
<Kracc>
crew rating will take years, likely
<Judge_Dedd>
Yeah, look at how long Dragon 2 is taking
<Kracc>
safety first
<Judge_Dedd>
It's the only way
<Althego>
but at least they made nasa realize their original parachute testing was inadequate
<Althego>
but i am still sad there will be no rocket landings
<Judge_Dedd>
They could always just fill Starship with a bunch of Dragon 2s ;)
<Kracc>
doesnt help that the whole powered landing shtick never got anywhere
<Althego>
because of human rating it
<Kracc>
mhm
<Althego>
too much regulation
<Althego>
so they skipped it
<JVFoxy>
ugh... get nervous when they do these human rated missions.. so much can go so badly wrong
<Kracc>
1. its hard and 2. you're pummeling the immediate area with hydrazine
<Judge_Dedd>
They could presumably use powered landing for their own purposes, if they needed to.
<Althego>
even the shuttle had hydrazien problem
<Althego>
so i think that is not that big of an issue
<Judge_Dedd>
When I see how much can go wrong, it gives me a whole new level of respect for the engineers who designed the likes of Soyuz and Apollo. Especially Soyuz
<Kracc>
they had to send dudes in bomb squad tier gear to get rid of the hydrazine discharge
<JVFoxy>
Well.. something to be said about keeping things simple.
<Althego>
on the other hand no word from elon or spacex about the pressure test
<Kracc>
soyuz is a bit of an engineering marvel tbh
<JVFoxy>
Multi day flights to the ISS with Soyuz.. I've been a little curious how they spend time onboard. I kind of doubt they'll spend those two days jammed into those couches. Not when you've got a habitat sections just in front of you
<JVFoxy>
w Shenzhou is kind of neat... can stay in orbit at least
<Flayer>
i'm really looking forward to the next moon landing
<Flayer>
i hope we can have china on board for the moon base
<Kracc>
i admire the optimism
<Flayer>
it's all i got
<Flayer>
just ended a relationship & job at once :(
<Kracc>
dang
<JVFoxy>
canada here wants to see everyone all take that next step together
<Flayer>
it's got to be happening this coming decade, no?
<Kracc>
yeah
<Kracc>
the moon at least
<Judge_Dedd>
I think China have huge potential in space exploration. They have considerable resources the government can allocate at will
<Judge_Dedd>
They also appear to be more willing to take risks. There are many negatives with that, but one positive is that it spurs development. Apollo only succeeded in the incredible timeframe they were set because of a willingness to take calculated risks
<Judge_Dedd>
You could say the same thing with the soviet space programme. Yuri Gagarin was given a 50% chance of succeeding

so are most of my Kerbal pilots. the probe core flies the mission
<Althego>
why bringa pilot then. the most importantis always the scientist
<Judge_Dedd>
Engineers are super helpful for rovers...
<bees>
not really
<Judge_Dedd>
Repair wheels
<Althego>
rovers... aint nobody got time for that.
<packbart>
Althego: Pilots are sometimes useful to hold SAS during Commnet blackouts ;)
<Judge_Dedd>
I think engineers should be able to repair anything in a broken state. Last I checked, they can pretty much only do wheels
<bees>
rovemax m1 has 50m/s impact tolerance
<Althego>
wheels, legs and repackage chutes

I hate thermodynamics
<GlassYuri>
why does the hot air from the airconditioner blow on the ground next to me, rise up to the ceiling, pass above me, and slowly come down on the other side
<GlassYuri>
my desk is literally the coldest possible spot in the apartment
Deddly has joined #KSPOfficial
<Althego>
hehe
<Althego>
useful in the summer
<GlassYuri>
I just checked it and it's even worse
<GlassYuri>
move 1m in an arbitrary direction that is not blocked and it's warm
<GlassYuri>
literally
<Althego>
change the airflow
<Althego>
move the desk
<Flayer>
turn off the airconditioner and get a blanket

<Althego>
get a warm blooded animal to warm you
<GlassYuri>
I have a plush snake
<Althego>
lol
<Althego>
69 minutes in and they are still not outside
<Flayer>
looks like they're thinking about it tho
<packbart>
Jeb can go EVA at the click of a button. I haven't seen a "EVA prep time" mod yet ;)
<bees>
GlassYuri: divert some of the airflow with some flat thing
<bees>
or add a fan in the hot air that blows it on you forcefully
<kmath>
<DJSnM> People who are saying the Cybertruck looks like a PS1 game are forgetting their video game history https://t.co/zJhG5lUfTj
<Mat2ch>
The problem with the cybertruck is... I'm getting used to the look
<sandbox>
I hope it gets getter fps
<Mostly_Deddly>
Eye catching it is, practical it may be, beautiful it is not. But I also think the demographic most interested in an electric truck are probably wanting to make a statement, and THAT, it certainly does
<Mat2ch>
Also it's durable
<Mat2ch>
so maybe some companies just order it because it will last long
<Mostly_Deddly>
Absolutely
<Mostly_Deddly>
I suspect it won't have very good crumple zones, unless they did some clever tricks to move the passenger compartment around inside
<Mostly_Deddly>
I like the sliding cover over the flatbed part
<Mostly_Deddly>
And I love the integrated ramp
Mostly_Deddly is now known as Deddly
<Deddly>
I have to say, I do like the idea of a vehicle that isn't designed to look pretty, so you don't mind it getting a bit bashed around.
<Deddly>
The entry price was also a pleasant surprise
<Deddly>
The on-board air compressor and electrical outlets are also pretty neat
