heh finally ksp2 is going to have differently expanding engine exhaust with pressure
<flayer>
i think i have that now with waterfall effects
<packbart>
so they're implementing the Waterfall mod? :)
<flayer>
it expands the exhaust based on the atmospheric pressure
<Mat2ch>
Althego: they better have an even better physics engine ;P

<Raptop>
shiny
<Raptop>
But will exaust expansion affect I$_{sp}$?
<packbart>
I'd expect them to be coincidental, both based on pressure and a curve
<Raptop>
oh well. It would be cool to accidentally get some fancy simulation bits "for free"
<Althego>
external pressure changes isp even in ksp1, so i expect that would keep working
<Althego>
remember when it didnt?
<Raptop>
yeah, and then there was a time when it affected fuel consumption instead of thrust
<Althego>
that too
<Raptop>
I want to say historically it went (no effect) -> nominall a spline but all stock engines were linear between 0 and 1 atm -> actually a spline that considers vacuum, 1 atm, and when the engines have laughable thrust

the quick disconnect arm is currently installed over at Boca Chica
<darsie>
Will it make shock diamonds at sea level?
<Althego>
hehe

darsie: the quick disconnect arm? :)
<darsie>
hm?
<packbart>
shock diamons
<packbart>
the waterfall mod does have them ( https://imgur.com/a/7dKvGXp ), so I'd be disappointed if KSP2 didn't
<darsie>
Rocket engines typically underexpand at SL and as the atmosphere compresses the exhaust it forms shock diamonds.
