ruby is great because i've never thought about parsing or evaluating it or implementing an interpreter

and that is how things will stay

Iskierka, egg, anyone else in/near the UK: so, uh, coordinating an ANBO meet up circa June 30-July 1, or July 7-8?
<egg>
(ok that might be a long commute to cambridge)
<UmbralRaptor>
Just a bit.
APlayer has quit [Ping timeout: 182 seconds]
* UmbralRaptor
does not have a feel for how large EU distances are.
<egg>
UmbralRaptor: 300 km as the theropod flies between ANBO and cambridge
<egg>
UmbralRaptor: also there's a sea
<UmbralRaptor>
Probably a few hours by train?
<egg>
UmbralRaptor: a few > 5 I think
<UmbralRaptor>
meep
<egg>
UmbralRaptor: everything goes through Paris
<UmbralRaptor>
!choose: LHR|CDG
<egg>
UmbralRaptor: also once you're at the nearest train station to ANBO an interesting question becomes going there, because public transportation in rural france is, um,
<UmbralRaptor>
whelp
<egg>
(that's 15 km)
<egg>
there are taxis, though you have to book them a while in advance
<egg>
whitequark: hm somehow base32768 makes things slower than hex (apparently far more so than the encoding/decoding time), rather than faster because of the shorter strings Ꙩ_ꙩ
<egg>
what is ksp doing with those savefiles
<egg>
yeah that insane parsing logic should get faster with shorter strings, idgi

guesses that getting between Cambridge and ANBO is impractical without a car.

UmbralRaptor: I think there's *reasonable* public transit between those two places, this is !America

bofh: on an unrelated note, what prompted someone to describe WIS as your dump stat? o_O
<egg|phone|egg>
Bofh, yeah but through Paris and then you have the last 15 km
<bofh>
UmbralRaptor: I rambled about how the cold doesn't bother me, I've totally pulled allnighters walking thru major blizzards before, then recounted no less than 5 such distinct cases, half occuring due to missing travel and not having a place to stay (or any money), the other half b/c I kinda felt like wandering around in unfamiliar surroundings at 3AM and so what if there's a Nor'easter?
<UmbralRaptor>
Hah
<bofh>
then there was the time I walked 17km along the shoulder of a busy highway between two cities during the night b/c I felt like walking from one to the other but had no idea what the pedestrian path was like (actually my mistake was assuming stops on a particular bus route would be equidistant and so that distance would be ~2km instead of ~17km).
<bofh>
I mean I haven't died of hypothermia (tho that time I got lost in a forest in -15degC weather in a tshirt and jeans while running a high fever was legit scary in retrospect (wasn't wearing a coat b/c I was extremely warm indoors b/c again, fever)).
