<LunchBot> transhohmann: After several thousand hours of KSP, you set out to make your own space program. Jool tosses you out into interstellar space, with a passive-aggressive note telling you not to come back.
<transhohmann> unsurprising.
<XXCoder> wow perfect couple
<XXCoder> it makes perfecr logical sense lol
<XXCoder> ;mission
<LunchBot> XXCoder: You open a portal to Duna to recover the abandoned Union Aerospace Corporation facility. Your rocket goes to jail for illegal possession of a kerbal.
<XXCoder> ok thats just weird
<transhohmann> jumping out of a rocket that is burning retrograde only 27m from the ground at 650m/s and surviving has got to be the most impressive thing I have seen a kerbal do
<XXCoder> they're heck of a lot tougher than us yeah
<XXCoder> I once had one orbit ker.
<XXCoder> thats one year of alone in suit in space
<transhohmann> lol I left jeb in orbit for 4 years once, just because i don't like losing jeb

<XXCoder> also tells me that they are plant based
<transhohmann> yep
<transhohmann> and very, very good at photosynthesis
<transhohmann> I wonder if snacks are rich in nitrogen
* raptop continues to insist on Kerbals being pacifist orks
<Althego> hehe
<XXCoder> lol
<Althego> heh¸keybod¸dying
<Althego> nd¸lso¸phosphous
* raptop should get a fancy mechanical keyboard at some point
<raptop> ...though given how wonky the keyboard tray on my desk is...

<Althego> reboot fdixed it
<Althego> anyway snacks probably have phosphorus too, aside from nitrogen
<raptop> umaxtu: looks cool, but I'd want a more traditional layout
<raptop> Althego: phosphoryl azide?

<LunchBot> funkenstein: You use KSP rocket data in your final project for your statistics class. Your R&D department procrastinates on their simulations by playing Cookie Clicker.
<funkenstein> new name, same obnoxious dweeb
<funkenstein> coming up on my duna transfer date
<funkenstein> I have two vessels in orbit waiting for maneuvers that I have just now noticed are almost synchronized. What should I do?
<funkenstein> ;mission
<LunchBot> funkenstein: You surrepetitiously replace a cat's blini with a waffle. [DATA EXPUNGED]. Debris is strewn over a [REDACTED] cubic light-second volume.
<funkenstein> ...
<funkenstein> ;mission
<LunchBot> funkenstein: You try a propellant combination you read about on Derek Lowe's blog. This will be fixed in the next version.

<LunchBot> funkenstein: You find an up-to-date mod list for Scott Manley's KSP installation. You accidentally unleash kOS-powered self-replicators on Kerbin.

<LunchBot> funkenstein: You upgrade your spacecraft control to be entirely keyboard-based. There is a direct correlation between your level of fear and the exponential growth of the fireball.

<Kerbot> Althego => Falcon 9 - Starlink-38 - Fri Feb 25, 2022 17:12:00 UTC (L-09:17:52) - https://rocketlaunch.live/launch/starlink-38 for info/stream
<Althego> wow, fast
<funkenstein> lol
<funkenstein> SporkWitch how is the mapping going
<bees> funkenstein: Frustrated by the failure of your heavy spaceplane design, you simply turn it upright, attach launch clamps, and call it a rocket. You're barred from further flights due to government legislation imposed by a competing space program.
<funkenstein> I have done just that.
<funkenstein> I also really like the idea of attaching a small spaceplane to a rocket and letting it drift down to the surface from orbit, then taking off again and heading back to kerbin
<funkenstein> radially.

<FLHerne> funkenstein: In stock at least, I don't think you have an option besides replanning your maneuvers to not overlap
<Althego> usually you just need 10-30 seconds for some things, and then you can switch immediately to something else
<FLHerne> Yeah, but if it's Duna transfer burns they might take a while
<Althego> then you can still priorize nodes, some of them happen on orbit and you can just wait for the next one
<Althego> while you must do the aerocapture
<Althego> you can wait with an injection burn

<Althego> spacex stream started
<Mat2ch> finally something positive today
<Mat2ch> aquaholic did some "meet the owner" video again. I never watch those...
<Althego> t-50 sec
<Althego> landed
<Mat2ch> and very centered as well.
<Izaya> angery the video cut out
<Althego> always
<Althego> at this point i assume that is intentional
<Mat2ch> the soundwaves the booster makes is messing with the satellite signal
<Mat2ch> I don't think it is intentional, but just too costly to fix.
<Izaya> yeah x_x
<Izaya> pretty neat that that's a thing though
<flayer> i want to see the falcon heavy launches
<Mat2ch> You'd probably need a super stable short distance connection to a ship nearby that doesn't get shaken around
<Mat2ch> I want to see Starship launch!
<flayer> thats not happening for a while
<Mat2ch> I hope March
<Mat2ch> soooooon
<Althego> heh
<Althego> dleayd for quite a long now
<Mat2ch> yeah, well
<Mat2ch> the environmental report should be out soon
<flayer> i'm not anticipating a starship orbit until next year at the earliest
<Mat2ch> or somebody is stalling to allow SLS to launch first :P
<flayer> and a landing might be even later than that
<flayer> Mat2ch, developing one rocket into a successful human launch platform despite starting later is good enough i think
<flayer> being capable of developing two human class launch platforms before SLS can even get going is too depressing to consider
<Mat2ch> hrhr
<Mat2ch> oh, they left the stream running
<Althego> heh i missed a guerilla kikkerikii...

<LunchBot> XXCoder: You research the possibilities of demon summoning in the field rocket propulsion. Solid rocket boosters are banned from the space program by environmental activists.
<XXCoder> solid booster is too dangerous on demon-rocketlogy I guess
<funkenstein> lol

<LunchBot> funkenstein: You attempt to fly a spaceplane with FAR. You are sued by Apple.
<XXCoder> you went too far with FAR for Apple I guess
<Althego> is it better than being sued by disney?
<funkenstein> :outcome add Apple's largest production facility is mysteriously melted by boosters
<LunchBot> funkenstein: Added outcome: Apple's largest production facility is mysteriously melted by boosters
<XXCoder> careful of the mouse
<funkenstein> beware ze MAUS
<funkenstein> bwahahaha
<sandbox> ;mission
<LunchBot> sandbox: You order a batch of LV-T30's. TheKosmonaut's feelings are hurt.
<raptop> Yeah, using LV-T30s in sandbox mode is silly
<funkenstein> Why? I generally don't use them beacause I prefer a combination of swivels, thuds, boosters and occasionally a mainsail or an ion engine.
<funkenstein> also, can I still install mods with CKAN with steam KSP
<raptop> I mean, in sandbox you're not restricted to small engines, so outside of testing, why not grab a skipper or mainsail instead of an array of lower Isp/TWR engines?
<Althego> actually i like the smaller sized things in ksp. but even then i rarely use the reliant, despite the better thrust. the only case is strap on boosters
<raptop> T30 based SSTOs can deliver more payload to LKO than T45 based ones because of the thrust!
<Althego> if they get there
<funkenstein> lol
<raptop> I mean, they could even back in the souposphere days?
<funkenstein> I have installed both of the DLCs apparently but the parts aren't showing up
<funkenstein> wait
<funkenstein> maybe I haven't restarted the game since then. nyways, I can mod the version on steam, right?
<Althego> probably (i dont have steam), but the modified config files would show up as damaged if you try to use the checking function of steam
<umaxtu> funkenstein: you can, but I recommend making a copy of the steam ksp installation folder and modding the copy.
<raptop> ^
<funkenstein> hmm
<umaxtu> shame ntfs isn't copy on write
<Althego> windows will have something like that 20 years after it is default on linux
<Izaya> CoW is <3 for modding games
<Izaya> compression is a plus too, especially for badly optimised games (like ARK: Survival Evolved, which compresses from 300+GB to ~35 with zstd)
<Althego> historically games had assets multiple times so that they can load them faster from a hdd
<Althego> now that they are officially moving to ssds on consoles, they might actually shrink somewhat
<Althego> ok not on deduplicating filesystems
<raptop> AIUI, historically here means 2010s
<Althego> the ssd based approach is only there for the last generation of consoles
<Althego> that is what, 2 years?
<Althego> yes may be 2010s
