unsurprising.

XXCoder: You open a portal to Duna to recover the abandoned Union Aerospace Corporation facility. Your rocket goes to jail for illegal possession of a kerbal.
<XXCoder>
ok thats just weird
<transhohmann>
jumping out of a rocket that is burning retrograde only 27m from the ground at 650m/s and surviving has got to be the most impressive thing I have seen a kerbal do
<XXCoder>
they're heck of a lot tougher than us yeah
<XXCoder>
I once had one orbit ker.
<XXCoder>
thats one year of alone in suit in space
<transhohmann>
lol I left jeb in orbit for 4 years once, just because i don't like losing jeb

funkenstein: You upgrade your spacecraft control to be entirely keyboard-based. There is a direct correlation between your level of fear and the exponential growth of the fireball.
<bees>
funkenstein: Frustrated by the failure of your heavy spaceplane design, you simply turn it upright, attach launch clamps, and call it a rocket. You're barred from further flights due to government legislation imposed by a competing space program.
<funkenstein>
I have done just that.
<funkenstein>
I also really like the idea of attaching a small spaceplane to a rocket and letting it drift down to the surface from orbit, then taking off again and heading back to kerbin
<funkenstein>
radially.

funkenstein: In stock at least, I don't think you have an option besides replanning your maneuvers to not overlap
<Althego>
usually you just need 10-30 seconds for some things, and then you can switch immediately to something else
<FLHerne>
Yeah, but if it's Duna transfer burns they might take a while
<Althego>
then you can still priorize nodes, some of them happen on orbit and you can just wait for the next one
<funkenstein>
FLHerne I instead did some fancy crashing for a bit of fun and will relaunch a better planned wessel later on

sandbox: You order a batch of LV-T30's. TheKosmonaut's feelings are hurt.
<raptop>
Yeah, using LV-T30s in sandbox mode is silly
<funkenstein>
Why? I generally don't use them beacause I prefer a combination of swivels, thuds, boosters and occasionally a mainsail or an ion engine.
<funkenstein>
also, can I still install mods with CKAN with steam KSP
<raptop>
I mean, in sandbox you're not restricted to small engines, so outside of testing, why not grab a skipper or mainsail instead of an array of lower Isp/TWR engines?
<Althego>
actually i like the smaller sized things in ksp. but even then i rarely use the reliant, despite the better thrust. the only case is strap on boosters
<raptop>
T30 based SSTOs can deliver more payload to LKO than T45 based ones because of the thrust!
<Althego>
if they get there
<funkenstein>
lol
<raptop>
I mean, they could even back in the souposphere days?
<funkenstein>
I have installed both of the DLCs apparently but the parts aren't showing up
<funkenstein>
wait
<funkenstein>
maybe I haven't restarted the game since then. nyways, I can mod the version on steam, right?
<Althego>
probably (i dont have steam), but the modified config files would show up as damaged if you try to use the checking function of steam
<umaxtu>
funkenstein: you can, but I recommend making a copy of the steam ksp installation folder and modding the copy.
<raptop>
^
<funkenstein>
hmm
<umaxtu>
shame ntfs isn't copy on write
<Althego>
windows will have something like that 20 years after it is default on linux
<Izaya>
CoW is <3 for modding games
<Izaya>
compression is a plus too, especially for badly optimised games (like ARK: Survival Evolved, which compresses from 300+GB to ~35 with zstd)
<Althego>
historically games had assets multiple times so that they can load them faster from a hdd
<Althego>
now that they are officially moving to ssds on consoles, they might actually shrink somewhat
<Althego>
ok not on deduplicating filesystems
<raptop>
AIUI, historically here means 2010s
<Althego>
the ssd based approach is only there for the last generation of consoles
<Althego>
that is what, 2 years?
<Althego>
yes may be 2010s
