XXCoder: "fun" fact: there's now a whole generation of adults for which the 1980s are as strange to them as the 1950s were to the original 1980s audience of that movie

You try to jetpack from the surface of the Mun to orbit for the 13th time. You are now an unperson, removed by Big Bobny's Redaction Wheels.
<Eddi|zuHause>
oh noes, they're editing me out of photos and stuff...
<packbart>
you overdid it with the jetpack-to-orbit thing, maybe
<darsie>
That's my entry :).
<darsie>
Try doing it in less ;).
<Eddi|zuHause>
but one time it MUST work!!!
<Eddi|zuHause>
i think my main problem with jetpack-orbit is you can't use maneuver nodes to plan rendezvous
<darsie>
The goal is orbit.
<darsie>
nothing else.
<darsie>
Rendezvous is optional.
<darsie>
I have a capsule with ion thruster in orbit for rendezvous.
<darsie>
To refuel the jetpack.
<Eddi|zuHause>
it's hard to get into the correct orbital plane
<darsie>
no
<sandbox>
it's longer ago from now to the release of Fallout; New Vegas, than it was from Fallout: New Vegas's release back to the original Fallout's release
<darsie>
The capsule is in polar orbit, so you wait till you're in the plane and jetpack North or South.
<darsie>
Doesn't have to be exact.
<Eddi|zuHause>
and then i notice i went in the opposite direction? :p
<packbart>
Eddi|zuHause: hitting the capsule at double orbital speed still counts as a rendezvous
<Eddi|zuHause>
i don't think that helps you refuelling the jetpack (presumably for a kerbin return)
<Eddi|zuHause>
i've actually used "flyby" rendezvous for LKO rescue missions... they can just space-jump back...
<darsie>
The capsule can approach the Kerbal who then can grab the ladder and board the capsule.
<darsie>
Initially the capsule needs to make a low pass over the Kerbal so you can switch control to the Kerbal.
<darsie>
Then the Kerbal flies to Kerbin, aerobrakes, enters the space station to refuel the jetpack again and finally does a jetpack deorbit.
<packbart>
I think "probes before crew" was meant in a more temporal sense

It does if you have n-body gravity simulated. In stock KSP you just discover the hard way that you're outside of the moon's SOI
<Eddi|zuHause>
well, you can theoretically park just ahead or behind the mun SOI at the same orbit

FLHerne: sounds unrealistic. [please ignore the Falcon 9 in the background]
<raptop>
okay, granted, when K-1 was proposed, the Falcon 9 wasn't the high flight rate monster it is today. I'd have to double check the timeline to see if it was even flying.
