raptop changed the topic of #principia to: READ THE FAQ: http://goo.gl/gMZF9H; The current version is Galileo. We currently target 1.5.1, 1.6.1, 1.7.x, 1.8.1, and 1.9.1. <scott_manley> anyone that doubts the wisdom of retrograde bop needs to get the hell out | https://xkcd.com/323/ | <egg> calculating the influence of lamont on Pluto is a bit silly… | <egg> also 4e16 m * 2^-52 is uncomfortably large

Calvin_Maclure. — Um... I tried something for the sake of curiosity. I staged to just have my payload and kick stage, and THEN made the TLI node, and now I can't even come NEAR the moon???
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — Does that even make sense?
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — I went from impact with 3181 m/s to having a real hard time getting something with 4500 m/s!
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — Something doesn't make sense
<discord->
lpg. — what does the duration look like
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — 2.7 secs, which doesn't make sense
<discord->
lpg. — that's usually what it gives if Instant Impulse is enabled
<discord->
lpg. — possibly also if there's no engine active at all
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — So the engine then also has to be activated for Pr to do it's thing?
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — so now the duration is 186s
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — Which... again... doesn't make sense
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — My stage packs 3300 m/s in 56 s
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — And I cannot for the life of me even come near the moon now... wtf??
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — Ok... so I suppose me not choosing the correct frame of ref (which I THOUGHT I had) helps... *shakes head*
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — Would it tactic make sense quicksave, stage to have payload+kickstage, create node, document data, load quicksave and then recreate that exact node (which now, having upper stage+kick+payload will be off), but the node data will have actually been computed with the actual craft mass & engine that will be used??ç
<discord->
lpg. — That should work. assuming the staging event doesn't include any decoupler force

<discord->
lpg. — you'd be going blind after the reload though, with a trajectory that makes no sense
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — a very small amount. BUT, the payload has RCS. The one thing I cannot figure out is how to get a precise orientation for the burn beyond eyeballing that

<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — The only thing I can think of that seems to make sense would be: 1- create a guestimate TLI node, 2- guestimate orientation, 3- orient craft in said orientation 4- stage for actual TLI craft config, 5- delete previous node, 6- create new node with closest start time as possible as before
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — If changing the craft config changes how Principia interprets the TLI node... I don't know how else I'm suppose to do this.

MsEmily. — I started playing RSS/RO/RP-1 recently and been having a great time. I'm currently setting up to go orbital, is it worth me installing principia now, or progress further with RO before adding even more complications? What would be the main things to be aware of that are drastically different? And finally, is there a major performance hit, even on my high-end system the amount of mods I'm on now is

Calvin_Maclure. — You need to do it before you have anything in orbit. Else kiss it goodbye
<discord->
MissEmily. — That's one of the things I was thinking and is one of the reasons I'm considering now.
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — If you've not sent stuff to orbit, it's now or never, really.
<discord->
Butcher. — Perf wise, I run it on my laptop.
<discord->
Stonesmile. — @MissEmily If this is your first playthrough of RP-1 and you are unfamiliar with principia, then I would suggest getting to learn one before having both (either learning Principia in stock ksp or adding Principia to your second playthrough of rp-1

Butcher. — Depends how precious you are about framerate.
<discord->
MissEmily. — When I say increasing the load, I'm now noticing slight stutters occasionally and occasional drops below 60, so i can definitely lose a bit more. @Stonesmile Based on that I think my plan is, playthrough RP-1, playthrough Stock solar system with Principia, then do both

sichelgaita. — Re: Performance. Things to expect are (1) slower scene changes (possibly to the point of obnoxiousness) (2) slower warp and/or frame rate drop during warp. Also, the more cores the better.

MissEmily. — Scene changes are already getting annoyingly long on my install 😅 think I need to remove some stuff that isn't necessary
<discord->
Zeusbeer. — mhm, yes, until 2400 get's fixed, I don't really recommend playing rp1 with principia as it's incredibly slow for scene changes

Stonesmile. — Issue number on GH about large save files
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — yeah I figured it was a GH thing, but was wondering what the issue in question was
<discord->
Stonesmile. — *I'm not competent enough to tell you what the devs are implementing, but;* The main problem is how the history of vessels is saved and they are trying different things to make it more compact
<discord->
Calvin_Maclure. — Right, got it.
