Zeusbeer. — N9gaming, how frustrating are a lot of the issues of crashes/things not working when you combine principia and rp1?
<discord-_>
Zeusbeer. — Im considering going trough rp1 again

Butcher. — @Zeusbeer I have no particular issues with Principia and RP-1.
<discord-_>
Builderbast. — Me neither
<discord-_>
Builderbast. — Just had to use hack gravity for airlaunching
<discord-_>
egg. — I think @siimav fixed that
<discord-_>
pt1243. — yeah, it's either in the KCT or CombinedQueues branch

Ringo. — What is the Delta V required for a Venus flyby?
<discord-_>
Builderbast. — Really depends on the launch window though, so pack some extra

Ringo. — For interplanetary trajectory, should I have a LEO orbit with a correct inclination relatively to Mars or Venus, or change my inclination when I'm doing the TMI or TVI?
<discord-_>
Maravone. — Ideally you're in the correct inclination at LEO for an efficient transfer, so that you can reduce your normal or anti-normal delta-v at TVI/TMI
<discord-_>
Stonesmile. — However, most principia users use a polar orbit with it's normal facing the sun. This gives you some flexibility
<discord-_>
Ringo. — Hmm yeah
<discord-_>
Ringo. — Because with TWP, the TVI or TMI Delta V is calculated with the fact that I will have to correct my inclination in LEO to do a flyby etc
<discord-_>
Stonesmile. — I recomment using other tools to get the timing of the window, and to plot the transfer by hand
<discord-_>
Ringo. — Like KSPTOT?
<discord-_>
Stonesmile. — by other tools, I mean the ones you mentioned

Zeusbeer. — > However, most principia users use a polar orbit with it's normal facing the sun. This gives you some flexibility
<discord-_>
Zeusbeer. — Does this really work? I just launch into inclination and burn to the planet?
<discord-_>
Zeusbeer. — Launching like that would actually require braincells :(
<discord-_>
Stonesmile. — Since you want a burn that is along the orbit of Earth and might be out of plane, an orbit like that gives you both, you can burn in your plane, and timing gets inclination
<discord-_>
Zeusbeer. — What about cosine losses? Most of the tangent burn wouldn't be optimal
<discord-_>
Stonesmile. — You are correct in an in-plane parking orbit being more efficient, but it's easier for a one-man-spaceprogram to do it with polar launches
<discord-_>
Zeusbeer. — I mean as long as you're at a good launch site, launching into a plane with the barycentric navball shouldn't be that hard
<discord-_>
lpg. — one handy side-effect of going polar is you're guaranteed not to be launching in pitch darkness
<discord-_>
Zeusbeer. — For launch windows you can use this
<discord-_>
Marsu. — 2010 - 2040 only
<discord-_>
Zeusbeer. — Nvm it only works for 2010
<discord-_>
Zeusbeer. — :(
<discord-_>
Zeusbeer. — ^^^
<discord-_>
Zeusbeer. — Anyone has a different table?
<discord-_>
itsRyan. — You can pretty quickly get it manually with your handy-dandy KRASH computer. Near your launch, sim a probe into orbit, then play with your inclination using hyperedit or re-sim until it lines up with your computed ejection burn. You can so something similar out of game with KSPTOT.

<discord-_>
itsRyan. — KSPTOT is faster since it gives you the LAN of your ejection burn hyperbola.
<discord-_>
Zeusbeer. — Mhm, I'd rather use something simple like launch window planner, sure it doesn't work perfectly with principia, but it's close enough
<discord-_>
itsRyan. — Transfer Window Planner gives pretty much the same info as LWP. But both of those tools give transfer inclination in Heliocentric reference frame. You'd have to do quite a bit of math to convert that to a parking orbit, unless I'm missing a feature of LWP?

Ringo. — Why I don't encounter Venus?
<discord-_>
itsRyan. — That's not Transfer Window Planner, that's the transfer planner in KAC, which is not usable in RSS because it assumes round, equatorial planet orbits. Here's where to get/read about TWP: https://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/index.php?/topic/84005-17x-transfer-window-planner-v1710-august-19/
<discord-_>
itsRyan. — Note that TWP is also an approximation when using Principia, but it's pretty close for windows.
<discord-_>
Ringo. — Well it should be TWP right?
<discord-_>
itsRyan. — If that's your current time, it looks like you're past the optimal transfer time. You can probably still get a flyby with ~5000m/s dV with a good parking orbit. Probably the best way to see what good starting values for the burn are is to go to the ship in orbit, set your target to Venus and use MJ's transfer tool.
<discord-_>
itsRyan. — But of course since that's conic approximation you'll have to play with the numbers in the Principa planner.
<discord-_>
Ringo. — Yeah
<discord-_>
lpg. — is there a difference between the navball titled "Surface" and the xCxF navball?
<discord-_>
Ringo. — Help, I found a way to get closer to Venus, but it's out of amount of Delta V that I have and that TWP predicted
<discord-_>
itsRyan. — That's actually pretty close to an ideal solution. 150m/s more than Vinf+Hohmann isn't bad at all. What does MJ's planner say from your orbit as the ASAP solution? There may be another transit time that would have a lower transfer burn.
<discord-_>
Ringo. — Nevermind sorry, by reducing the mass of the Agena stage, I'm able to gain some Delta V, I'm still adjusting the maneuver, but looks good
