<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Ok so I have managed to figure out orbits and even transfers to other planets, but I am still struggling with orbital rendezvous
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ I’m in Stock KSP with a fully upgraded tracking station
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ In a parking orbit below and behind my target, so I will catch up with it.
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ I am not getting any intercept markers when I create a node with enough delta v to increase my orbit to intercept as I would in stock without Principia
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ What am I doing wrong?
<queqiao->
⟨Damien⟩ have you switched to the target reference frame?
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ I’ve targeted his vessel
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ In the main Principia window
<queqiao->
⟨Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they)⟩ You can use the principia window reference frame selector, or (I think) click the velocity indicator on the navball until it is correct
<queqiao->
⟨cola98765⟩ size
<queqiao->
⟨cola98765⟩ is it normal that my RP1 save with 10 or so things is 160MB even with principia set to 1d?
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Ok when I click the velocity indicator on the nav ball it switches from “KCI” to “KCKF” to “Taft LVLH@K”
<queqiao->
⟨Stonesmile⟩ > set to 1d
<queqiao->
⟨Stonesmile⟩ That doesn't make any difference, the complete vessel history is saved no matter the settings
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Guess I need the third option?
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Ok when I click the velocity indicator on the nav ball it switches from “KCI” to “KCKF” to “Tgt LVLH@K” (edited)
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ However when I select that one all my plan length lines disappear
<queqiao->
⟨cola98765⟩ Great... followup question. Can I safely remove principia or will something break?
<queqiao->
⟨cola98765⟩ or is there a way to disable history
<queqiao->
⟨Stonesmile⟩ You can delete old vessels, or switch to the vessel and toggle "hack gravity" on and off in the alt+F12 menu
<queqiao->
⟨Stonesmile⟩ You can delete old vessels, or switch to the vessel and toggle "hack gravity" on and off in the alt+F12 menu to reduce save file size (edited)
<queqiao->
⟨cola98765⟩ so hacking gravity resets vessel history, but you can't do that automatically and you have to do that periodically on all the crafts you want to keep?
<queqiao->
⟨Stonesmile⟩ Yeah, there is no automated way to do it
<queqiao->
⟨cola98765⟩ As much as I like n body orbits, I can't be bothered with removing history on dozens of crafts (as removing them is also not the best option imo), so I guess I'll just uninstall
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Oh wait I was focused on the target vessel and not my own
<queqiao->
⟨egg⟩ The save being large, though not really an intrinsic problem, does make things slower because KSP is stupid; we are working on making it smaller while retaining the history (issue #2400). Note that only vessels in orbit (especially low orbit) are big, the histories of your interplanetary probes should be virtually free.
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Ok I’m getting somewhere finally
<queqiao->
⟨cola98765⟩ yes. I've read that issue pretty much in it's entirety... It seems that they have solution for bodies themself with "checkpoints" as they call it, but since May they didn't implement it for vessels
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ However is there some way to turn off all the info labels as they are getting in my way of seeing what I really need to focus on
<queqiao->
⟨cola98765⟩ yes. I've read that issue pretty much in it's entirety... It seems that they have solution for bodies themself with "checkpoints" as they call it, but since May they didn't implement it for vessels, which are the main issue I face (edited)
<queqiao->
⟨egg⟩ Well “they” only are two and only have so much time on our hands…
<queqiao->
⟨cola98765⟩ I didn't mean it as a bad thing
<queqiao->
⟨cola98765⟩ it might even be one person, but I don't know em
<queqiao->
⟨egg⟩ I am one of them :-p
<queqiao->
⟨cola98765⟩ what I do know is that such complicated mods with this much theory involed are really hard to make, and then keep updated
<queqiao->
⟨egg⟩ Work is progressing on #2400 though, things should hopefully come together over the next few months
<queqiao->
⟨cola98765⟩ I have complete respect for what you are doing, as even tho it's hard to use in campaing, it already was used couple of times for educational purpuses
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Anyone?
<queqiao->
⟨egg⟩ What info labels
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ The one that pop up giving info on Pe Ap , etc
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ When planning an orbit intercept
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ I know that you and right click on some and that does the trick some times
<queqiao->
⟨egg⟩ well they only show up on hover, to make them stay you had to right click on them to start with
<queqiao->
⟨egg⟩ you can right click again to make them go away
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Ya, but some just show up automatically
<queqiao->
⟨scimas⟩ They are not quite showing up automatically. If you had one marker right clicked => didn't right click to get rid of the label => changed the flight plan which made the markers to move around => one of the newer marker will get the "un right clicked" property and its label will show up.
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Ok I’ll try and ensure they are all unhighlighted before i change things
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ In the mean time, I’m currently on a 21.7m closest approach to my 1st rendezvous with Principia
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ 🎉
<queqiao->
⟨scimas⟩ But yes, getting rid of the labels is annoying sometimes, especially when you're in a stable-ish orbit.
<queqiao->
⟨lpg⟩ "no I don't want to click on this one I want to click on _that_ one"
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ One things for sure, won’t be setting up a rendezvous in a hurry lol
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ EXACTLY
<queqiao->
⟨Damien⟩ the one true source of KSPTSD
_whitelogger has joined #principia
<queqiao->
⟨egg⟩ Usually people find rendez-vous in Principia easier than stock
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Maybe I just need practice
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ This was my first time after all
<queqiao->
⟨Damien⟩ I think if you do it correctly, hard c. but I pronounce it with a soft c
<queqiao->
⟨Damien⟩ I also say gif rather than gif
<queqiao->
⟨egg⟩ It depends how you speak Latin, I guess
<queqiao->
⟨Katniss (Katniss/Katniss's)⟩ How do you pronounce it? 😛
<queqiao->
⟨egg⟩ [pʁɛ̃sipja], like a terrible person 🙃
<queqiao->
⟨Katniss (Katniss/Katniss's)⟩ Omg I don't know what I assume is IPA 😂
<queqiao->
⟨Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they)⟩ Have you rendezvoused in stock?
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Yea
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Stock for now
<queqiao->
⟨Serina⟩ One thing that's easier in principia: Rendezvous or however it's spelled
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ I guess once you know how lol
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Learning how is the hard part
<queqiao->
⟨Paculino (ŝi/ri/she/they)⟩ It is basically the same as in stock, but you have orbital pertubations and ***much*** better tools to analyze the orbits and relative velocities
<queqiao->
⟨Serina⟩ Hum well I mean I kinda got lucky and with my second launch was within 50 km, at which point I tried to figure out how to target the other vessel with my manuevering probe, i had to use KER to do it. but i then swapped into the target orbit thingy and it gave me this really neat:this is how you will move in relationship to the target.
<queqiao->
⟨NewfieStargazer⟩ Just need to practice by rescuing a few more stranded Kerbals
<queqiao->
⟨Serina⟩ loopy loops that within an hour and about 10m/s of rcs thrust, got me from launch of the human(kerbal) to rendezvous.
<queqiao->
⟨Serina⟩ side note, does anyone have any experience with figuring out what the LAN should be for flyby boosts?
