<Althego>
from undocking?
<cirith_gorgor>
Mat2ch, the mindless primitive violence of the Great Spot is so entrancing...it naturally guides the eye towards the epicenter of the violent cosmic storm
<Althego>
have to hurry and get there to have humans look at it before it completely vanishes. at least that is no going to be our fault
<Mat2ch>
Althego: from landing
<Althego>
what is coming back?
<Mat2ch>
CRS-21, Cargo Dragon
<Althego>
i guess it uses the same landing areas as the crew dragon now, so the weather around there has some effect on that
<Mat2ch>
It's landing in the Atlantic ocean now. NASA wished for that. Probably because it's easier to get it to KSC.
<Althego>
i dont get why americans are so afraid of solid gorund
<Althego>
the russians have ben using land since forever
<FLHerne>
Starliner does
<Althego>
and it doesnt work
<FLHerne>
Well, the airbags seem to work ok
<Althego>
just the whole thing doesnt
<Althego>
with the 90 or so issues
<FLHerne>
And Dragon was going to land on land, but NASA didn't like retropropulsion
<Mat2ch>
With SpaceX water was always just the secondary option. But when NASA decided that they don't like powered landings, the primary option was gone.
<Althego>
iwasnt the issue the landing legs poking through the heat shield?
<FLHerne>
No
<FLHerne>
That was the stupid Reddit 'fact'
<Althego>
well doesnt matter, the dragon is just a small intermediate step
<FLHerne>
Would have set a good precedent though
<FLHerne>
Of course, the incident where the retropropulsion system exploded and destroyed a capsule might show they had a point :p
Ezriilc has joined #KSPOfficial
<Althego>
no, because that is still the escape system
<FLHerne>
But the fix was just to add a burst disk
<Althego>
replacing a valve
<FLHerne>
Which prevents using it as a reusable retropropulsion system, and probably would have been there already if it wasn't designed as one
<FLHerne>
In addition to, surely
<Althego>
bbut the result was still the splashdown
JVFoxy has joined #KSPOfficial

?

not LANDing

<Judge_Dedd>
The reason SpaceX didn't push ahead with powered landings was NASA, primarily, but also because they wanted do devote R&D resources to Starship/Superheavy
<Althego>
not the first thing they scrapped, not the last
<Althego>
at least the starship is simply too big for such tricks
ChucklesTheBeard has quit [Quit: ZNC crashed]
ChucklesTheBeard has joined #KSPOfficial
<Judge_Dedd>
Starship is also not reliant on NASA
<Judge_Dedd>
And since NASA are interested in using it for future Moon missions, propulsive landing is a must, anyway
<Althego>
the moon starship is possibly a different design
<Althego>
without heatshield and special landing engines
<Althego>
i am afraid they are going to fall into a trap with that just as with falcon heacy. oh we just strap these boosters togeteher and we are go. it wasnt that simple

I'm really sorry but I'm not the best one to ask about modding issues. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will see your question soon :)
<Althego>
yes, i dont know much either. i would try to uninstall mods until it comes back

That is generally the usual way... try to find out which mod is causing the issue. This is Realism Overhaul, right?

<Althego>
european space station?
<FLHerne>
jinx
<Althego>
anyway i havent understood a single sentence from that
<Judge_Dedd>
Well, nitrogen is a thing. This we can all agree on.
<Althego>
how do you produce nitrogen? through fusion?
<darsie>
Suns do.
<darsie>
Stars*
<Althego>
did humans ever produced nitrogen?
<darsie>
By fusion?
<darsie>
or so?
<Althego>
or any way
<Judge_Dedd>
Google tells me that the encyclopaedia Britannica says that nitrogen can be produced by burning hydrocarbons in air and separating the CO2 and water from residual nitrogen.
<Althego>
i can imagine other wys, by splitting atoms
<darsie>
Probably with some particle accelerators.
<Judge_Dedd>
So that's more like refining it than producing it
<Althego>
yes, that is not producing it
<Judge_Dedd>
Or you can make nitrogen by heating barium azide, apparently.
<raptop>
I mean, given the large amount of nitrogen in the air, there's no need to mess around with nuclear processes. fractional distillation of air is sufficient
<raptop>
Or is something like producing ammonia, nitrates, etc meant?
Guest80090 has quit [Quit: webchat.esper.net]

I guess we shall never know
<darsie>
0.8% N in urine.
<Althego>
hehe
<Althego>
that is not too bad
<Althego>
oh btw, what is the urinte tank level
<darsie>
And we're electrolyzing the water to get O2.
<darsie>
I guess we'l purify the water prior to electrolysis.
<Judge_Dedd>
See this is what I love about this community. Someone attempts to troll (maybe) and we turn it into a serious conversation about space travel.
<Judge_Dedd>
Never change, KSP community
<darsie>
Could be worth it to make N2 and only bring up LOX.
<Althego>
no urinte tank level
<Althego>
why cant i write it correctly
<Althego>
probably because the t in the tank
<darsie>
Then again, we don't really use up N2, so we need to replenish only a little.
<Althego>
you do use up n2, by leaking
<darsie>
Leaks?
<Althego>
no perfect seal
<Althego>
the iss always leaks a bit
<darsie>
Ok, but I guess this is small.
<darsie>
And we do grow plants. There are probably a few nitrogen fixating bacteria.
<packbart>
Nitrogen is dangerous when forced into lockdown. It wants to roam the world
