As part of Russia's "Thunder 2019" military exercise, Ryazan attempted to launch two R-29R ballistic missiles on 17 October 2019. However, only one did so successfully while the other remained in its launch tube
<Neal>
new place selected for "last place on earth I want to be"
<Neal>
#1 on a russian sub with an ICMB that failed to clear the launch tube
<Eddi|zuHause>
that probably depends on how much "shoot the messenger" mood they have when they get told one of the rockets is stuck :p
<Eddi|zuHause>
on the whole, i don't see how the failed rocket would be any more dangerous than an unfired rocket
<Neal>
comms lines probably severed
<Neal>
igniters in unknown status
<Neal>
saltwater in launch tube
<Althego>
it could start up unexpectedly or explode
<Neal>
kinda like misfires from a gun

I wonder if fuels like h2o2 are used for rcs on icbms

These days the standard recommendation is to go with the Enhanced Editions. Dunno how you'd feel about something based on 2E AD&D rules, though
<raptop>
sandbox: yep
<Eddi|zuHause>
i thought the even editions are the bad ones?
<raptop>
hah
<Pinkbeast>
No, odd Star Trek movies are the bad ones
<Eddi|zuHause>
you saying 10 is better than 7?
<raptop>
well, somewhat. Let's not talk about Nemesis or Into Darkness
<raptop>
(I'll accept Beyond as a technically non-canonical addition to TOS, though)
<Pinkbeast>
Sorry, I don't follow; Undiscovered Country is the last Star Trek movie.
<Pinkbeast>
(I stopped going when the even-numbered ones were terrible too)
<Eddi|zuHause>
i'm not much into TOS...
<Eddi|zuHause>
8 is probably my favourite
<umaxtu>
The Lower decks makes we want to rewatch TOS
<sandbox>
The Trouble with Kerbals
<Eddi|zuHause>
i've seen some sporadic TOS episodes, but i never watched the whole thing
<Pinkbeast>
I have (and TAS), it has not aged _very_ well but it's good in parts. But Wrath of Khan is still very good.
<SporkWitch>
beyond and discovery are not star trek
<SporkWitch>
neither is the Kelvin timeline
<Eddi|zuHause>
i kinda liked the occasional mirror universe episode in deep space nine, but in enterprise it got a little out of hand
<SporkWitch>
Enterprise felt like it lacked direction / purpose. It struggled to start, but did alright in the middle, and the end was just massively rushed and a cop out. Felt like the studio was to blame, though, not the writing or acting
<Eddi|zuHause>
it was definitely cut short

very helpful
