<SporkWitch>
it's just up and down, but defined in relation to relative strongest gravitational influence, rather than arbitrary
<Izaya>
okay so if my ship was pointing normal, fore would be normal, aft would be anti-normal, nadir would be radial in, zenith would be radial out
<SporkWitch>
yes
<Izaya>
alright, that's all the docking nodes renamed :D
<SporkWitch>
ah, i see what you meant now
<SporkWitch>
those would not be the correct terms
<Izaya>
o-oh
<SporkWitch>
You name them relative to the craft. Ventral (belly), dorsal (back), port (left), starboard (right), fore, and aft
<Izaya>
Even on a station?
<SporkWitch>
are you constantly rotating your station to keep the same docking port facing the planet? :P
<Izaya>
I can B)
<SporkWitch>
then you COULD, though it would still be conventional to name them relative to the craft.
<Izaya>
it has kOS, I can have a boot script lock the steering to heading(0,0) until SAS is enabled
<SporkWitch>
if you don't rotate it, though, then nadir is constantly changing relative to the craft
<SporkWitch>
(the ISS does this, actually, it has a slight rotation so that the same side is always facing the earth's surface)
<SporkWitch>
Izaya: point stands, if you're going for _proper_ naming conventions, even for a station, it would be the ventral docking port, not nadir.
<Izaya>
it does mean I can apply that to arbitrary craft and keep the same scheme
<SporkWitch>
that's why it's done lol
<SporkWitch>
(though honestly i never even noticed you could name docking ports, but i always haven't done much docking; all the video always seemed to be tempting the kraken; i probably should experiment more with orbital construction, probably just need an engineer and some struts to stabilize things, or could even just auto-strut these days...)
<Izaya>
the Konstruction mod has construction docking ports which is really nice
<SporkWitch>
what i'd really like is a PROPER docking camera; the couple i've tried either don't work or i couldn't figure them out lol
<Izaya>
they can be "compressed" and deleted from the craft, permanently attaching the two sides
<SporkWitch>
interesting. that would solve a lot of the current issues with orbital construction, since it doesn't let you interact with stuff that's "too heavy" to do a proper assembly in space using the EVA construction mechanics
<Izaya>
if I add a .old to the name of a .cfg will the game not load it?
<SporkWitch>
i'm just hoping i'm not deluding myself in thinking these will be solved problems in KSP2. Orbital and off-planet construction are the two big things that were never done well in KSP, but would really clinch it as pure awesome, instead of just mostly awesome lol
<SporkWitch>
shouldn't
<Izaya>
good

hello, would it be possible to have small drones such as SPHERES and ASTROBEE included in the game?? I am flying them around little courses I assembled (using ship parts to make gates) and presently the smallest machine I can build in the vanilla game is roughly 350 lbs (.175 tons). It is the smallest monopropellent tank that can have thrusters mou
<tsmspace>
nted to it, some thrusters and a battery. I also would like to see out the front of the drone,, just like real life quadcopter FPV. (I do believe spheres had a camera, but the astronauts did not have a good 6 axis interface, so sport flying probably wasn't particularly common). It would be fun to simulate a small, football sized co2 powered drone.

might be able to manage something with a scaling mod, but no, nothing quite that small in stock
<tsmspace>
I really don't know how to use mods, or such
<SporkWitch>
there are mod managers available, like CKAN
<tsmspace>
I'm completely unfamiliar

You search for more vict^H^H^H^H willing volunteers. Your attempt to ship food to starving forum delinquents on Tylo fails when you arrested for "feeding the trolls."

you *are* arrested

interesting, voluntold is not even underlined, so known by the checker

was I supposed to be saying something right now?

sandbox: No, it's voluntary.

You don't use correct grammar. You meet an alien who refuses to say anything other than the words "??? ????".

raptop: You decide to solve your problems by using regular expressions. You are shredded by a relativistic feather cloud ejected from a very frivolous high-energy physics experiment.

Possibly in conjunction with other instruments, though people have IIRC looked at SDSS, WISE, etc surveys and found nothing

I guess in a year or two one could compare JWST data in GOODS-N or whatever with HST?

Hrm, I think some of the Cycle 1 programs will be looking at Stripe 82

<raptop>
Okay, yes, NGRST skews more towards being a survey instrument and IIRC lacks MIR capabilities

darsie with a k?

yeah. It's a dark time being banned from libera.
<raptop>
ah
<raptop>
And IROUV is, uh, more of a super hubble and very conceptual at the moment
