<SporkWitch> ♥ mastodons and s4 tanks; heavy payload? don't worry about it! just throw money at it! lol

<Izaya> deinonychuses and literally any payload
<Izaya> if it doesn't work you just need more of them
<Izaya> it's like violence
<SporkWitch> hehe
<SporkWitch> yeah, now i'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to actually control it in orbit. Plenty of leftover dV for rendesvous, but feels like i'm going to need to use vernors to actually dock it >_<
<Izaya> mastodons as RCS thrusters
<Izaya> brr
Wastl2 has joined #KSPOfficial
<SporkWitch> i thought slapping a bunch of adv reaction wheels on it would work, and it does as long as the batteries hold out, but even then i have no lateral control with a bunch of the 0.1 thrust RCS. There's the unidirectional ones that have 2 power, but I don't feel like that would be enough either :(
<SporkWitch> in fairness, it's literally the fuel storage module, so it's nothing but big tanks; i may rework it and just send them up empty, but i was really hoping to have a stockpile before setting up refining operations, would have made establishing them easier

<flayer> nice, i've made a sort of flying-floating barge-tugger to fetch returning rockets floating in the ocean
<SporkWitch> neat. Stock, or using one of the mods for aquatic stuff?
<flayer> it can fly to the rocket and gently land, attach to it, and then tug it back to shore
<flayer> stock + dlcs
<SporkWitch> will be awesome if we have some stock surface and subsurface stuff in KSP2. How awesome would it be to do proper exploration of laythe's oceans?
<SporkWitch> we still thinking KSP2 this year?
* darsie once made a submarine with propellers.
darsie is now known as darkie
<Althego> it is not even dark yet
<SporkWitch> darkie: i can't figure out how to make rotors / propellers work to save my life lol
<darkie> It's a dark time for me, being banned from libera.
<darkie> figuratively
<darkie> literally figuratively
<SporkWitch> O.o
<SporkWitch> libera is what forked from freenode, right?
<darkie> yes
<SporkWitch> depending on what of the core staff forked, it sounds like a potentially unpleasant place. freenode went to total shit by about 8 years ago or so, if not sooner. They embraced Eternal September and encouraged it. Even allowed tor connections (with exactly the result one would expect)
<darkie> I use the eternal september news server.
<darkie> Tor got restricted to registered users.
<Eddi|zuHause> i quit freenode when every sane channel stopped accepting unregistered users
<SporkWitch> step one in making a channel sane is requiring registration lol
Daz has quit [Ping timeout: 189 seconds]
<darkie> Registration is quick and easy. No phone verification needed ... if you already have email.
<darkie> well, once someone tells you the nickserv commands.
<Eddi|zuHause> when do i learn that i'll never learn how to land planes?
<Eddi|zuHause> especially with the first landing gear, which explodes when you look at it wrong
<Althego> hehe
<Althego> it is not as bad as it used to be
<Althego> it was really exploding because of the slightest touch
<SporkWitch> the small gear is basically worthless lol. It's much easier once you get to mk2 parts and medium gear. Still more challenging than real life, though, because KSP has wonky aerodynamics
<SporkWitch> the better question is why don't the large landing gear have turning capability lol
<Althego> the larger ones want to be main landing gear
<Althego> those dont turn either
<SporkWitch> the problem is that there aren't any gear the same LENGTH with turning capability, which you realistically need to taxi
<Althego> yes that is a bit annoying
<SporkWitch> granted KSP's wonky physics means your rudder has WAY too much control authority, so it works out, but still
<Eddi|zuHause> but... how do i get this plane back on the ground now, after i tried 20 times with various approach speeds?
<Althego> the horizontal speed is not that big of an issue
<Althego> the vertical is
<Althego> but advisable to go slow
<Eddi|zuHause> vertical speed is <5m/s
<Althego> then it should be fine
<Eddi|zuHause> but it isn't
<flayer> my barge can travel up to 40m/s on the water, tugging the rocket
<Althego> that is actually fast
<flayer> it will take forever to make it profitable tho
<Althego> spacex barges travel slower
<flayer> i doubt the spacex barges can fly when not towing a rocket
<flayer> nor are they powered by jet engines
<UmbralRaptor> 40 m/s is just under 78 knots
<flayer> i'll have to make sure to land the rockets off the coast of the space center, if i'm going to miss the KSC at al for landings
