<Eddi|zuHause>
why is it, when i have the newest stuff from CKAN, AVC still complains about like 10 mods that have newer versions available?
<SporkWitch>
presumably the ckan versions haven't been updated to latest compared to the source avc uses

how do i make hinges start closed?
<darsie>
in the VAB RMB menu chose their position?
<SporkWitch>
i didn't initially realize the toggle would switch between min and max; apparently needed to set target angle to the "stowed" position
<darsie>

Does anyone here have a VR headset?
<flayer>
not i
<SporkWitch>
i have a vive, but because my three monitors max out the GPU's resolution i can't use it with my current setup until i get a new GPU
<flayer>
so you're waiting until the blockchain collapse to use it?
<SporkWitch>
i've used it before when i wasn't maxing out monitors
<Deddly>
I'm interested in setting up a virtual office using Immersed, but I have doubts about the effective resolution of virtual monitors
<Deddly>
If I had a headset I'd just try it, it's a free download.
<flayer>
i'd rather stay away from that stuff
<SporkWitch>
the vive is fine for most games, but the pixel density i find just barely too low to be viable in DCS (you really need to see the enemy plane when it's just one pixel). For text, though, it's definitely too low for comfortable use. The index is significantly improved, but i haven't used it, so couldn't comment
<flayer>
but then again i'm slowly turning into a luddite
<Deddly>
What resolution is your Vive, SporkWitch?
<Deddly>
Most people using Immersed are on the Oculus Quest 2, which has a 1920 vertical resolution. From what I gather, the pixel density is higher in the centre

<SporkWitch>
1200x1080 per eye on the original vive
<Deddly>
Hmm, and a wider FOV, I believe?
<Deddly>
1920 plus a smaller FOV would be about double the pixel density
<flayer>
life is strange

grrrr, forgot a thermometer
<darsie>
I have VR goggles where I can stick a smartphone in.
<SporkWitch>
google daydream view is what convinced me to get a vive. it worked far better than i expected the PC stuff to, so i bought the vive on the correct assumption that it must be even better
<raptop>
Not sure, I guess they threw off a cover for something? o_O
<SporkWitch>
so if i'm understanding the maths right, i should be able to set up a constellation of ra-100 relays around kerbin and then just use ra-15s around other planets?
Deddly has quit [Ping timeout: 192 seconds]
<darsie>
I don't think so.
<darsie>
They don't combine, IMO. You better use the tracking station directly.
<darsie>
I think.
<darsie>
But I haven't really checked.
<SporkWitch>
gotcha. i'll stick with the original plan of RA-15 relays for the constellation around duna, assuming wiki is correct it should cover me as long as the sun isn't between kerbin and duna
<darsie>
In the VAB you can see the range of RA15 or so for various upgrades of the TS.
<SporkWitch>
for that matter, I should probably put a constellation around the sun to cover that...
<darsie>
That could help. Maybe in Dres orbit.
<bees>
SporkWitch: make two crafts with 23052395236523 big relays, use jool to fling them to top and bottom of solar system
<SporkWitch>
main headache will just be positioning. easiest way to do it is with an eccentric orbit with 1/3 resonance, but aroudn the sun that'll take a LONG time lol
<SporkWitch>
whooo, my IR satellite had JUST enough xenon left to adjust its orbit for the new asteroid contract :)
NicknameHere has joined #KSPOfficial
<SporkWitch>
wellp, time to find out if this mission works... 3 commsats and a lander for duna. plan is to circularize the orbit and detach the lander with it's little engine and enough fuel to deorbit, then burn to the needed resonant orbit and deploy the commsats.
<SporkWitch>
grrr, too tall, can't keep it balanced in flight
darsie has quit [Ping timeout: 189 seconds]
<bees>
ideal positioning would be outside of kerbin system
<bees>
on both sides
<bees>
otherwise far side of things is never covered
<bees>
so jool

i should think that a polar triangle around the sun should always be able to reach at least one satellite in a polar triangle around any other body...
Lyneira has quit [Quit: Bye]
<bees>
if you place triangle outside of the system, you need no relays usually
<bees>
even two sats are enough if you play with default comm settings that allow some clipping
