Does anyone know where the turbopump exhaust goes on the RD-107/8 ? It's conspicuously absent from everything I've seen

Is it possible that the procedural thrust plate causes problems?
<zilti>
As in, attaching five weak upper-stage engines to it, and upon ignition of that upper stage, the whole vessel explodes and everything disintegrates due to "beyond G-Force limit"

Question for you all ...Is it possible to have an image, or placeholder on the tech tree for the different engine modules that RO provides? Similar to how PART_UPGRADES work now in 1.2, but having an icon of the engine that is getting the new config unlocked would be great
<gazpachian>
No problems, Probus! :)
<gazpachian>
Pap1723: It should be possible to have the image there at the very least, purchasing the unlock through the tech tree interface could probably also work with some hacking
<stratochief>
Pap1723: entirely possible, I think. nobody has done the work to figure it out, but we accept code contributions :)
<gazpachian>
look up the dummy parts RP-0 places for procedural part unlocks, those should be a good starting point for writing your own configs
<stratochief>
Pap1723: NK mentioned that when he was working towards 1.2
<pap1723>
Damn, code is required, that will be a struggle for me
<stratochief>
gazpachian: nooo, the old RP-0 thing was a big pain in the butt.
<stratochief>
Pap1723: step 1: look at how stock do it. 2: start poking buttons and changing things :P
<gazpachian>
stratochief: how so? haven't touched 1.2.2 yet, what's different?
<stratochief>
Pap1723: also, see if other mods do it, and steal from them :P
<pap1723>
The strange thing is that stock uses PART_UPGRADE
<stratochief>
gazpachian: the whole parts upgrade thing. honestly, I've never come across it on stock yet
<pap1723>
No one creates the different Engine Configs like RO does
<pap1723>
Essentially PART_UPGRADES are **new parts** that provide boosts to existing parts, RO has a whole different way of handling the engine upgrades
<pap1723>
Or is that actually a RealFuels functionality?
regex has joined #RO
<gazpachian>
But by "new" you mean the system in place in 1.1.3, where configs are displayed in the VAB right click menu?
<pap1723>
Yes gazpachian, but 1.2 has a system where you can upgrade parts by unlocking techs on the tech tree
<pap1723>
Not RO, stock introduced the upgrade functionality even though they don't use it
<pap1723>
SSTU uses it quite extnesively
<stratochief>

So scatterer has a few edge cases that I keep running into, namely it's well suited for Earth-like atmospheres but it gets interesting when varying properties to be closer in line with other bodies in the solar system.
<stratochief_>
gazpachian: like which? what about Mars?
<gazpachian>
Mars is a little bad, I suspect due to floating point precision errors
<gazpachian>
but it gets REALLY interesting once you deal with more dense atmospheres, such as Titan!
<stratochief_>
gazpachian: feel free to weak it and make a PR for improvements. I know I certainly haven't put time into makeing Titan look better, so you could probably do better than the current default
<stratochief_>
*tweak it
<gazpachian>
well, I have. But the edge cases sorta ruin it
<stratochief_>
it is somewhat open to artistic interpretation as well; nobody knows what the clouds look like from within
<gazpachian>
http://imgur.com/a/I1gKl - I get the sunny side looking nice and realistic, but the dark side looks like a documentary on eye exams!
<stratochief_>
that may not be abhorently off; considering how a thick atmosphere may refract

which physics multiplier stratochief_
<gazpachian>
they stick to certain angles of incidence, so the whole planet pretty much looks like a big red glass marble.
<stratochief_>
gazpachian: like, one of the many in PhysicsGlobals? ie. skinInternalConductionFactor = 0.25
<stratochief_>
Starwaster: ^
<Starwaster>
does anyone else ever think MiB every time eye exams are mentioned?
<gazpachian>
I take no responsibility for Tommy Lee Jones flashbacks, sorry.
<gazpachian>
Anyways, I'll play around with Titan and the gas giants some more, then make a PR. Think I'll leave Mars as is if I don't figure out the bands issue.
<stratochief_>
gazpachian: fair enough. any improvement is worth a PR
<stratochief_>
gazpachian: if you can, I recommend including a Before & After comparison w/the PR, and a description of the change/why you believe it is an improvement of appearance or accuracy
<gazpachian>
Also, I've demonstrated several times that I cannot read forum posts, so I'm sure blackrack already has posted a workaround method to the band issue somewhere in the thread. :)
<gazpachian>
I'll be sure to do that! :D
<stratochief_>
gazpachian: what system to do you run on? Linux? Mac? PC? anything other than DX9 ?
<gazpachian>
I dual boot linux, but I've never tried KSP on my nix install
<gazpachian>
you mean for compatibility checking I assume?
<Starwaster>
stratochief_ no, not a physicsglobals thing... I think it's a deltatime scaling bug. Unless there's a really good reason for doubling deltatime...

stratochief_ does it ever feel like you have to place exactly two sets of heat pump parts to stop heat leaking?
Hohman has joined #RO
<stratochief_>
Starwaster: yep. although I tend to place them in symmetry anyway
<Starwaster>
Wow, that's exactly what's happening. Internal or skin flux added is getting cut in half
<Starwaster>
see, one of the things heat pump does is remove flux added going from skin-internal
<Starwaster>
if I remove exactly that much flux there's no way internal heat should be rising
<Starwaster>
but that added (removed) flux is being cut in half
<Starwaster>
causing me to utter a bunch of four letter words out loud behind my keyboard
<Starwaster>
I wonder if that got caught for 1.3 or if it's too late to do anything about it
<xShadowx|2>
prejudice against 5 letter words? you gonna hurt their feelings
<stratochief_>
I doubt it was caught, but who knows. the patch notes might shed some light?
<xShadowx|2>
ksp is still 1.2.9? could see bug tracker or examine the 1.2.9 dll if you know where :|
<xShadowx|2>
atleast you found whats been driving you crazy \o/
<Starwaster>
oh this is just one of a few things driving me crazy
<Starwaster>
analytic in general drives me crazy and that's probably 'working as designed'
<Starwaster>
I'm beginning to fear that I'll going to have to give up on getting RF to work properly with analytic. It's probably going to have to involve a major rewrite and another thermal simulation working on top of everything else
<stratochief_>
Starwaster: it combines fuel and tank temperatures when it goes analytic, correct? it would probably be more straightforward or simple to just simulate seperate from that sadly, yeah. or, override that combination to a combination of your choosing
<stratochief_>
which might be open to cheating by the user, but perhaps not

not sure what you mean. It clamps the part temperature to the propellant's boiloff temp, which is technically incorrect behavior and uses (or USED to use) the analytic temperature as the tank wall temperature. That's when I found out that the boiloff flux was actually being applied to the entire vehicle and incapable of cooling the individual tank part (while in analytic mode)
