<Guest83513>
hello all. are there any ksp wiki mods here? there is something wrong with the new user registration on the wiki. Tried in two different browsers, incognito mode, everything.
<Deddly>
Hi Guest83513
<Deddly>
UmbralRaptop is the man
<Deddly>
He's usually terribly busy but if you hang around for a little while I'm sure he'll try and help
<Deddly>
Can you describe the problem in more detail?
<Guest83513>
fill out everything correctly (using 'monkey' or 'rocket science' as the captcha, click 'Create your Account', accept popup for priv policy.
<Guest83513>
then it blanks all the fields and nothing happens.
<Guest83513>
seemed like it could be a browser issue at first. Can reproduce in chrome and safari on Mac OS, in both normal and incog modes.
<Guest83513>
UmbralRaptop can you help? Or can others try to register a dummy account to reproduce (or not reproduce)?
<packbart>
Is the Squad logo a monkey or an ape? Tricky captchas
<Deddly>
Hmm
<Althego>
it looks like a chimpanzee, which is an ape, but apes are also monkeys
<Guest83513>
anyway, wrong captcha should indicate 'wrong captcha', this seems like something else...
<Guest83513>
thanks Deddly!
<packbart>
I see. My answer to the other captcha would have been "to boogie" ;)
<Deddly>
It looks like it's an issue with the "terms and conditions" box, I think
<Guest83513>
Deddly you can reproduce?
<Deddly>
yeah
<Deddly>
But then I tried again now, and my name is registered
<Deddly>
But I can't log in
<Guest83513>
that could be because the name you chose is an actual username? My name is definately _not_ registered after (I try password reset w that username and it says does not exist)
<Guest83513>
ok glad you can reproduce though. means Im not crazy.
<Guest83513>
try fake registering with a completely random username that nobody would use, and I think you'll find that it doesn't register (at least it does me)
<Deddly>
I don't think my name was registered before I tried it, though
<Deddly>
Either way, it's apparently an issue that's been there for a while, hopefully ManeTI can fix it
<UmbralRaptop>
Deddly: was taking a GR exam. Probably want to poke Squad. I bet it's the EULA again?
<Deddly>
Seems to be, UmbralRaptop. I've sent a message to ManeTI

so im building another smole bomb
<Fluburtur>
if I leave some air gap inside the thing, will it give time for the fuel to combust and the gas to expand before rupturing the case to givea nice boom
<Fluburtur>
I should try with fewer bigger grains next time

Deddly i lost channel history when I logged out...were you able to escalate the wiki reg issue?
<Deddly>
ezee, yup, ManeTI is on the case
<ezee>
woohoo! thank you!
<Deddly>
You're welcome :)
<Deddly>
He says it should be possible to make an account on the second attempt, though

Deddly: well, he's far, but there are still many things to address. But he could be done before christmas...
<ezee>
Deddly (I don't see @ManeTI on here)... so second attempt does seem to try to create an account. It definitely is sending the request to create and doesn't just blank the fields. But, still no dice (new error) : https://imgur.com/a/lbhR5Bt
<ezee>
could be @ManeTI is working on it...
<Deddly>
I hope that's the reason... I never saw that error on the wiki before
<ezee>
Deddly after trying the back to back attempt, a second time..it worked.
<ezee>
registered!
<Deddly>
That's great!
<Deddly>
But can you log in?
<ezee>
yup
<UmbralRaptop>
\o/
<Deddly>
That's great! Thanks for reporting back on the progress, ezee

Deddly no problem, thank you for your help and the hint to work around it.

How is a smoke detector a source of gamma radiation?
Guest63182 has joined #KSPOfficial
<Fluburtur>
old ones had a tiny amount of radioactive stuff inside for some reason
<Guest63182>
anybody home?

.
<darsie>
Some smoke detectors use an alpha ray source (Americium 241, IIRC) which ionises air and allows current to pass. Smoke particles collect those ions and reduce the current, which is detected and reported.
<darsie>
Most radioactive decay is accompanied with gamma rays.
<Fluburtur>
this one says it emits only gamma but it could be just extra shielding
<darsie>
Unless the 241Am label is wrong it emits alpha rays.
<Fluburtur>
alpha particles you mean
<darsie>
Radiation comes in rays.
<darsie>
And every particle is also a wave.
<Fluburtur>
alpha and beta are atom nucleus
<darsie>
I want to see a tom with an electron as nucleus.
