Althego, people claiming to see Elon and/or Scott Manley. How do they know?

<Deddly>
Oh right, Musk actually Tweeted that the commentary is entertaining
<Deddly>
And Scott is actually talking in the stream, so is Tim Dodd. OK, all makes sense now :)

Is this a static fire test or flight test?
<umaxtu>
wet dress rehearsal with the potential to turn into a static fire
<Deddly>
Thanks
<umaxtu>
you're welcome
<Deddly>
I wonder why they decided to stick with the smaller diameter. Original plan was a few metres wider, right? But they made it smaller to be able to fit in their existing assembly buildings. Now that they're building it outside, why be constrained by size anymore?

<Althego>
hehe potential to turn into static fire, you mean blowing up?
<Deddly>
That would be an interesting way to spin a rocket explosion: "What do you mean 'explosion'? Are you referring to our large static fire test, which was more successful than planned?"
<Althego>
lol "hey elon if you are watching..."
<Althego>
and he requested some lights
<Deddly>
And lasers :)
<Deddly>
Lasers and techno music would really make for an interesting stream
<JVFoxy>
loud music so you can't hear the tank blowing up
<Deddly>
Ideally, AI-controlled music that integrated the explosion as an enormous baseline
<Althego>
as the tanks are moved around during the night and in some fog, it loks kind of futuristic
<Althego>
actually it is so futuristic it is not even finished yet :)
<Deddly>
Cold gas thrusters are complicated? Why don't they just slap on a few Place-Anywhere RCS thrusters? ;)
<Althego>
hehe
<Althego>
cant get any simpler than cold gas
<JVFoxy>
ice cold gas!
<Althego>
unless maybe just riding a huge space whale... gas
<Althego>
you dont need to build that
<Althego>
just let them breed
<JVFoxy>
powered by whale farts?
<Althego>
space whale farts, much cooler
<packbart>
the real question is: why don't they use Kerbal Anywhere-Plumbing
<JVFoxy>
lol.. mean while, here I'm mucking about with RCS powered .. things
<JVFoxy>
starting to think place anywheres use some kind of teleport tech
<Althego>
also kerbals can go from one part of the ship to the other even if there is nothing to pass through
<Black_Eagle>
heck, even the ship doesn't need to be attached to itself
<Black_Eagle>
loosely put together space junk
<Althego>
dc-3: collection of parts flying in loose formation
<packbart>
see, it would be all so much easier if some of those laws of physics were repealed
<packbart>
petition now!
<JVFoxy>
that bolt holding onto the wing.. ya can't get any tighter than that
<Deddly>
Jeffry tubes
<Althego>
jeffries
<Deddly>
Althego, I always try to design my craft with realistic ways for crew to transfer
<packbart>
ack. but they *could* transfer through girders and fuel tanks
<packbart>
(ok, there was a mod for that)
<Althego>
i can imagine haveing a tube inside the tank
<JVFoxy>
seem to recall some designs with tunnels for crew through fuel tanks
<Althego>
but girders is impossible

it is obvious fuel wouldnt flow around. why? because the main engines would slow down the rocket, and the side ones would keep it from falling, so it would be horizontal all along
