Just finished a 23 hour flight
<awang>
Who knew that low altitude had so much science laying around
<wb99999999>
next time try that mod which add a bunch of real world airfield
<wb99999999>
it may or may not make your life easier
<awang>
I mean, technically KSCSwitcher itself would have worked fine
<awang>
But hwere's the fun in that
<wb99999999>
then maybe try an antipodal bomber

What version(s) of the X-1 had all-moving tailplanes?
<awang>
Wikipedia mentions that all-moving tailplanes were added, but they don't appear to be present on the diagrams of either the X-1 or the X-1E

huh, I can't seem to change the size of Real Chutes. Am I missing something obvious?

oh, prev/next size
<wb99999999>
yeah it's VERY stealthy
<wb99999999>
It took me like a year to notice the option

The Wikipedia page for the Black Arrow:
<awang>
"The oxidiser tanks were located below the fuel tanks, following the practice of putting the more dense propellent at bottom in order to lower the centre of gravity and make the rocket easier to control."
<awang>
How accurate is this?
<awang>
I always thought higher CoG is better
<awang>
For stability, at least

<wb99999999>
why is the total amount of gravy lost decreases when you go "over" the apogee and pitch up to circularize?
<ferram4>
Because gravity losses are only measured in terms of going up against gravity.
<ferram4>
Consider that in an elliptical orbit, using that measurement you'd constantly exchange velocity between your velocity at periapsis and velocity at apoapsis + gravity losses from going up to apoapsis
<ProjectThoth>
Would a rocket burning at terminal velocity suffer gravity losses?
<ProjectThoth>
* falling
<wb99999999>
which way are you trying to thrust?
<wb99999999>
are you trying to go up or go side way or go down?
<wb99999999>
gravy loss is only there because you're trying to go up in the first place
<wb99999999>
I think an extreme case is hovering
<wb99999999>
which you're losing velocity to the gravity at the maximum possible rate
<wb99999999>
the other extreme is being in orbit, where you don't lose anything what ever you do (in the going up sense, that is)

What's the mechanics behind Soyuz's six-hour rendezvous?
<ProjectThoth>
I'm assuming it's probably not as simple as calculating the phase angle between a low and high orbit, and then backtracking by the approximate ascent time.
<ProjectThoth>
(ascent time of the interceptor, that is, and taking into account Earth's rotation)

or not setting pressure or altitude low enough

wonders why that's not the default

the change to 5km altitude pap made was awesome, 30k was useless

Born did it ever happened to you when MJ launch you into very strange orbit when you ask it to launch into the same plane with another object?
<Bornholio>
yes
<Bornholio>
i've had it send me into an opposite -x inclination quite often, and launch to plane/rend. has been very likely to fail in the past. But lately using Lamonts i've had good luck
<wb99999999>
which build in particular?
<wb99999999>
given he improved this I am pretty confident that it was he who fixed the wasted ignition thing as well
